A Christmas story – and shame on us all

After all those trials and tribulations, that terrible journey across desert and sea, only to wind up in Malta, sleeping under a bridge, and dying there at night like a dog “of natural causes”, while everyone around you insults you and treats you like scum – because “we have no room”, or rather, we have room only for people who pay us for a residence visa or a passport.

But as long as we’re jumping up and down on a Xarabank stage with Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and her husband, patting each other on the back ghax il-Maltin generuzi, we feel great about our blindness to the suffering of the least in our midst. Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers is a waste of time when you could be hanging out with a couple of building contractors instead.
