Watch: lonely Joseph Muscat chases after lonely Theresa May at EU Summit

This video of British prime minister Theresa May looking lost and alone at the EU summit last Thursday has gone viral in Britain.

But British viewers will have failed to notice that she wasn’t the only one. Look at the video carefully and you’ll see that Malta’s prime minister, Joseph Muscat, is even more lost and lonely than she is. He sees her standing alone and approaches rapidly, thinking “Ah, a fellow wallflower. I can pounce.”

He is brushed off by somebody he tries to greet on the way towards her, and reaches her too late, just as she sits down in her allotted place to avoid standing alone. There is a brief pause in which he wonders what to do, then he decides. You can see him, partly off camera, sitting down next to her.

But she’s not his mate Dave (who he must really be missing), and what’s more, he’s been mouthing off about a hard Brexit. I wonder what the two wallflowers spoke about – or if they spoke at all.
