Tourism Minister ED ZL needs to put some more Birkirkara constituents on Air Malta’s payroll

Air Malta is €66 million in the red and technically bankrupt. It’s seriously overstaffed, a small army of cronies has been put on the payroll since March 2013, and ED ZL is supposed to be hunting round for a buyer or flogging it to China.

And it’s cut routes and reduced the number of planes, but Air Malta is recruiting cabin crew. Can you believe it? It’s easy to see what’s happening here.

They’ve pledged to keep all Air Malta staff on the state payroll if the airline is sold and the buyer doesn’t want all those people. They said they’ll do what they did when they sold Enemalta to the Chinese, and distribute the many hundreds of employees throughout the public sector, so that the buyer can start off unencumbered.

So they’re going to stuff as many cronies as they can on the Air Malta payroll now, and those people will get to stay in the public service permanently, until retirement, whatever happens to the airline.
