Green Party chairman reacts to government’s new media bill

Arnold Cassola is chairman of Alternattiva Demokratika, Malta’s Green Party. He says that he will defy any such law by not registering his website and refusing to disclose his sources. That’s the spirit: my reaction was identical.

When a law is fundamentally wrong, you don’t cooperate with it, saying “but it’s the law”. You refuse to cooperate and challenge it openly.

There is the world of difference between legal and illegal, right and wrong. A decent, sensible person should seek on the side of what is right, not on the right side of the law.

I have no doubt that your usual Maltese lickspittle cowards are going to line up to register their sites, thereby undermining a common cause. What can I say? Good luck with that, freedom-fighters.
