Malta’s most notorious cabinet minister, Konrad Mizzi, who remains installed at the Office of the Prime Minister since March 2013 despite the international Panama Papers scandal which knocked the Maltese government for six, is now using public money to sponsor Instagram posts in which he defends himself personally against accusations of corruption and wrong-doing.

He has been using public money to sponsor posts on Instagram for a while now: usually about his many wondrous achievements in the energy sector. Now the sponsored posts are all about convincing people what an upright citizen he is, blatantly calling journalists who work for the Times of Malta liars.

Konrad Mizzi is now suspected by the European Parliament’s PANA Committee, which held a session in Valletta last Monday, of having set up his Panama/New Zealand structure for the purpose of laundering money.

Money-laundering is a term used exclusively under the law for money acquired through criminal activity like drug-trafficking, white slavery or corruption. In this case, it would be corruption (we hope – because we have reached the stage where we can’t rule anything out anymore).
