Malta makes the front page again: today’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung

Malta made the front page today – of Germany’s leading national newspaper, the Munich-based Sueddeutsche Zeitung. The article is subscription-barred, and it is in German anyway. A German friend has kindly agreed to translate it, and it should be ready some time tomorrow.

The front-page headline on the print edition says:

HOLIDAYS FROM THE TAX DEPARTMENT
Rich, prominent and business people are moving to the tax haven Malta. Malta allows what the EU is actually fighting.

The story is written by Frederik Obermaier, one of the two journalists on Sueddeutsche Zeitung’s investigative team – the other being Bastian Obermayer – who received from an anonymous source the massive tranche of documents that came to be known as the Panama Papers.
