Spanish bank to client: “Malta is a blacklisted country now due to high levels of corruption and fraud”
Within minutes of this post being published, I received another email, this time from a Maltese man who lives in England. I have reproduced it below.

I read with interest your recent post about your Maltese friend who lives in Italy and her daunting experience resulting directly from the corrupt Labour government in Malta today. It reminded me of a similar but distinct personal experience I recently had, brought about by exactly the same negative influences this set of corrupt individuals is ever more rapidly creating on the international scene.
I have had an account with Banco Santander Central Hispano in Europe for some fifteen years, carrying a modest amount of my savings. As my wife and I regularly visit Malta for extended periods, I decided to close this account and transfer the balance to my HSBC account in Malta.
After writing to my personal manager at Santander to issue the transfer and closure instruction, she called me to confirm for security purposes that it was indeed myself who had issued the instruction. I confirmed this, she expressed her sadness that after so many years I would be parting ways with the bank and then asked me one final question. She said “May I ask why you have chosen to transfer your balance to Malta of all places? As you know it is a blacklisted country now due to the high levels of corruption and fraud, so I really think your money may not be safe there”.
I was flabbergasted and totally taken aback. I politely thanked her for her advice and said that I am in fact Maltese and fully appreciated the risks.
This is the degree of damage that the corrupt individuals in the Labour Party are doing to Malta and recovery will take numerous years. But I have no doubt that they do not care one iota.
