Juncker should have a word with Cardona, who knows where to find the pastizzi
I really can’t stand it when people come to Malta on business or for political reasons and speak this way, as though they’re tourists patronising the natives in their cute little island.
Would Juncker go to Paris for a conference and say to the French, “I love France! Now I want to try your frogs’ legs!” Would he go to Rome for discussions and say to the Italian media, “I love Italy! Now I want to try your spaghetti!” Well, exactly.
When people speak like this – when people like Juncker, especially, speak like this – they being patronising. They’re belittling the people they’re purporting to praise. It’s offensive. And it should be reported and read only in those terms.
If Juncker wants to try some pastizzi, I suggest he gives the Minister for the Economy a call. He’s the expert on pastizzi, though a health warning is required as some of them may well be contaminated.
