Mrs Muscat costume update: channelling the Queen Mother in the 1930s

I’m afraid I have to flag this as a Bogan Alert before we proceed: Mrs Muscat appears to have taken the children with her to the Commonwealth ceremony at Westminster Abbey, even though she was on the flight out to London with three other women who could have well looked after them.

But the imperative here is to make the most of it and to collect a fan-picture with Prince Harry for our scrapbook of dreams.

I must say I’m fascinated by the way Mrs Muscat always has costume ideas for special occasions, rather than clothes. Today we are channelling Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) in the 1930s, complete with daughters in matching coats, because it is London and there are princes about.

Mrs Muscat seems genuinely to want to give her daughters a good time and an exciting experience, even if it means freeloading off the public purse and taking a ride off her husband’s public position. Her husband, on the other hand, seems largely indifferent to all that and seems to bring out the children – who have been out of public view for a long while now, sensibly – when he needs an image boost. Then he tweets about them to impress Disgusted from Sliema. He’s certainly not doing it to thrill his core voter base of British Go Home fanatics.
