Who’s had enough of these powerful liars?

Brian Tonna has issued another statement, this time saying that he never denied owning Willerby Trade Inc.

Ah, so that would be why he used a complicated and inpenetrable system of Mossack Fonseca nominees in Panama to hide his ownership of the company, and set it up in the British Virgin Islands rather than Malta in his own name.

Once his ultimate beneficial ownership was revealed by the Panama Papers – worldwide – through documents obtained from Mossack Fonseca’s server in Panama, it wasn’t a matter of not denying it, but of not being able to.

In the same statement, Tonna – the corrupt accountant who set up secret companies in Panama for three Maltese politically exposed persons after March 2013, and another secret offshore company in the British Virgin Islands for Cheng Chen, the Chinese executive who negotiated with Konrad Mizzi on behalf of Shanghai Electric Power for the purchase of Enemalta – said he has never used Willerby Trade Inc for tax evasion and money laundering.

Perhaps he would like to tell us which legitimate purposes he used it for, given that it was designed for complete secrecy, was not declared to the authorities in Malta (except perhaps to the Prime Minister, his chief of staff and ‘pet’ minister in an unofficial capacity) and was acquired three months after Labour won the general election in 2013.

Joseph Muscat, the incoming Prime Minister, opens Brian Tonna’s (on left) new offices in March 2013.
