Top comment: Muscat asks Labour supporters to get rid of Labour candidates who he can’t get rid of himself

The comment below was posted on this website today. I had the same reaction when listening to Muscat say, yesterday evening in Mqabba, that if Labour supporters have been upset by particular party candidates, then instead of not voting Labour at all, they should vote for other Labour candidates.

It is up to him and his party to make sure that all candidates on the Labour list are worth voting for. If he is too weak or hamstrung to get rid of them himself, then he should not expect his supporters to do it for him.

It is unheard of for the leader of a political party to say that not all the party’s candidates deserve the public’s vote.

Muscat already said this some time ago, and his wife did the same. But I thought I had misunderstood.

This time there can be no mistaking what he means: there are candidates, presumably former MPs, who have deceived voters. And Muscat knows about it.

Such are the standards of MuscatPL that these candidates have been allowed to stand once again for election but the leader of their party is telling the faithful not to vote for them.

He didn’t have the power or the will to reject them himself so he’s telling voters to do it for him.
