Vote Labour so that Evarist Bartolo doesn’t have to give up his salary, car and chauffeur
Somebody who is at an EU-funded apprenticeship conference at the Malta College for the Arts, Sciences and Technology (MCAST) has just sent me a WhatsApp message during the Education Minister’s ‘speech’:
“So I’m at an EU apprenticeship conference at MCAST and Evarist Bartolo has just said: “I’ll only be speaking for a few minutes because I’m supposed to be knocking on doors as I don’t want to be unemployed come Saturday.”
But right now, the public isn’t paying him to knock on doors. The public is paying him to be the Minister of Education. I can understand Bartolo’s pressure: for the second time in his life (the first was when he was in Prime Minister Sant’s cabinet) he has a proper salary and for a position in which he can do his all-time favourite thing, which is to take it easy and avoid busting a gut about anything.
He also has a car and a chauffeur, which is very convenient as he doesn’t hold a driver’s licence as he never learned how to drive. When he is not a government minister and we’re not paying for his chauffeur, he takes the bus or gets his wife to drive him.
