“Our future and reputation are at stake in this election” – former HSBC managing director
Godfrey Swain, former HSBC managing director and head of retail banking and wealth management (he now works for a bank in Vietnam) has written this post.
“Decent people who vote based on their values, their personal integrity and are committed to doing the right thing in life can only vote in one way in this coming election,” he writes. “Many of the basic democratic values built over many years have been used and abused over the last few years.
“Corruption in our country is rife, in politics, in business and increasingly in different facets of our lives. The scale of the wrongdoing in our country has stunned and shocked many of us to the core. The nepotism, lack of transparency and accountability and muzzling of the free press are frightening, as is the complete failure to understand the basic principles of sound governance, the duty to be honest and truthful and the duties and obligations of politicians to serve the society that elected them to power.”
