I’m listening to Muscat lying to the European Parliament

Brazenly – and with the usual supreme conviction that comes from almost believing your own lies – the Prime Minister has told the European Parliament that they are wrong to say that no action has been taken against Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri about the Panama Papers “because there are four independent judicial inquiries taking place right now”.

I am literally gob-smacked. The way he lies so boldly and gets away with it is simply beyond belief.

Those four judicial inquiries have absolutely nothing to do with Konrad Mizzi’s and Keith Schembri’s involvement in the Panama Papers. Konrad Mizzi is not even the subject of one of those judicial inquiries.

Keith Schembri is the subject of two of them but it’s nothing to do with his Panama company or his activities in government, but his money-laundering activities with the ex managing director of The Sunday Times and the Times of Malta, and the other is about his suspected kickbacks from Brian Tonna on the sale of Maltese citizenship to some Russian people. These two inquiries were not started by the state authorities, but were triggered when two Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit reports, which had been sitting in a police cupboard for a year or so, were leaked to the Opposition which then handed them in to a magistrate.

Another inquiry is about how a Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit report into the operations of Pilatus Bank – nothing at all to do with Panama or the government – was leaked to the media.

The fourth inquiry is about Muscat himself and the ownership of Egrant Inc in Panama. Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri are nowhere in the equation.

On the other hand, there are several Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit reports which were submitted to the police for further investigation and prosecution – of Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi – and the police just covered them up and sat on them.

One Police Commissioner actually resigned within 24 hours of receiving a Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit report into money-laundering by Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi, rather than have to take action against them or cover up the report.

I can’t take these lies anymore. It is just so offensive that our own prime minister, besides lying to us, those he governs, now travels abroad to lie in foreign forums too.

We deserve better than this corrupt, lying rubbish.
