Making the most of it right up until the end: today is the last day for GM cars
This photograph was taken on the way in to work today.
Today, the permanent secretaries in all government ministries are meant to collect all car keys, ensure that the government cars used by ministers and officials are returned to the government garage, and that all government-issue equipment like laptops and so on are returned and accounted for.
They have until close of business today, and the ministers – who stop being ministers at 5pm today – have to go back home in their own cars, in a rental, or have their wives/husbands/children/friends pick them up. Or use the bus.
Because even if Muscat is re-elected to government tomorrow – if he manages to defy the power of thousands of votive candles lit and prayers said to the Madonna, St Jude and St Anthony by Maltese nannas throughout the land – they will have to be reappointed to the cabinet.
