“Politics for the few is anti-politics. The poison of corruption and lies goes against social justice” – the Archbishop of Malta

The Archbishop of Malta has done his duty and spoken out, on the last day that the law permits him to do so.

“Politics for the few is anti-politics,” he said. “The poison of corruption and lies goes against social justice and creates social conflict.”

Now the Labour Party is going to lurch down his throat. But what do they imagine – that any priest, let alone the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in Malta, can advocate a vote for corruption or for a political leader who lies to and hoodwinks his own people?

At an entirely rational level, the Archbishop is literally obliged to advise people to choose the common good over evil. Because this really isn’t even about party politics anymore.
