Adrian Delia report: Police sergeant at Hal Qormi station under arrest and heavy interrogation

A police sergeant deployed to the Hal Qormi station was arrested yesterday and placed under heavy interrogation, accused of sending this website a photograph of an internal report featuring Nationalist Party leadership contender Adrian Delia.

The internal report (below) is the subject of this piece.

The same police sergeant was today seen entering the Criminal Investigation Department at Police HQ in Floriana for further interrogation.

The police are not empowered to arrest and interrogate me about my sources (or any other journalist, for that matter). I will, however, freely inform them by means of this piece that no member of the police force was my source on this matter. If the police sergeant in question is formally charged in court or brought before the Police Board, I will give my testimony under oath to this effect or provide him with an affidavit which he can use in his defence.

I now expect Adrian Delia to come forward and say publicly that he expects the police to go after Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi and Joseph Muscat, and after the high-ranking police officers who sat on reports into their suspected money-laundering activities, and not after low-ranking and vulnerable officers who they suspect of the terrible crime of keeping the public informed.

This certainly does not do anything to improve the impression that Dr Delia’s is the Labour Party’s favourite PN leadership contender, or that they are rooting for him for reasons that need not be explored in public at this stage.
