BREAKING/Jean Pierre Debono and Julian Micallef organising ‘mob’ to turn up at Nationalist Party HQ this evening
Screen-shots of messages exchanged in the secret WhatsApp group of Adrian Delia’s campaign aides and ‘office workers’, in which Nationalist Party assistant secretary-general Jean Pierre Debono and Birkirkara-boutique owner and poker player Julian Micallef are prominent participants, show that they are working to drum up a mob to turn up at the Nationalist Party headquarters at 6pm today to demonstrate in favour of Adrian Delia.
The secret WhatsApp also includes Arthur Azzopardi, the lawyer who has filed the current spate of libels suits against me on Dr Delia’s behalf.
The party’s administrative council, of which Mr Debono forms part, is set to meet this evening to discuss the revelations – not allegations – about Dr Delia’s links to a Soho prostitution racket and the way he allowed his Jersey offshore bank account to be used for the laundering of proceeds from the racket.
In instructions given through the WhatsApp group, the campaigners were at first urged to round up people to turn up wearing “white tops” and carrying placards in support of Dr Delia. Later instructions decided against this, saying that they must avoid looking organised and coordinated, so they should turn up in their normal clothes and without placards.
Two or three members of the groups are against turning up in person because it requires too much effort and people might not want to be seen on camera. They have suggested a “Facebook protest” instead, with one of them writing that “a Facebook protest is ideal because it is easier to click a like than to mobilize people”.
Fascinatingly, all the members of the WhatsApp group have ignored the actual revelations about Dr Delia, even though the purpose of a campaign office is to address just such stories in the media and to work out how to respond factually and professionally.
Instead, they only solution is to drum up mobs on Facebook and in front of the party headquarters.
