Nationalist Party’s Administrative Council invites Adrian Delia to “reconsider his position”

The Nationalist Party’s Administrative Council tonight issued a statement saying that it has formally asked leadership contender Adrian Delia to “reconsider his position”.

If he were not from the wrong side of the tracks, he would have instantly recognised this as code for “Please withdraw from the race before you embarrass yourself and the party even further. We will not disqualify you, so as to preserve your dignity, but this is simply a matter of good manners. You must know to reciprocate by pulling out.”

But he’s from the wrong side of the tracks, and so the code is alien. Instead this man who is in debt up to his eyeballs and beyond, with one bank chasing him and his colleagues in a failed flats-building business for seven million euros, and three banks owed three quarters of a million euros for his personal home-related debts alone, gave a press conference accompanied by the now-standard thug, with his wife still missing in action, and said: “This is my baptism of fire and I will keep going.”

He has to. He has no choice. The only way he can hope to keep the banks off his back is to become Opposition leader. He’s safe from the police because they’re not going to pursue him given that Chris Cardona and his driver Mark Barbara are in the mix.

He hasn’t even started and he’s a wreck already. Sometimes, crime doesn’t pay.
