He failed at running a football club, but he thinks he can run the Nationalist Party and the country

Birkirkara FC’s UEFA licence application was rejected earlier this year when the club was unable to satisfy the requirements of the licensing process, bringing to an end the team’s record of 20 consecutive years of participation in European football.

The Malta Football Association issues a UEFA licence to those clubs which 1. apply for it, and 2. have no overdue payments to other clubs, players and the Inland Revenue.

The disorganisation with which Adrian Delia ran Birkirkara FC as its president meant that the club did not meet the requirements and was, for the first time, denied its UEFA licence. And once again, documents appear to have been the problem. When the MFA’s decision was communicated to the club, Delia made a dramatic emotional show of offering to resign, but his fellow officials refused – maybe because he burst into tears again.

Perhaps Delia was too busy ruining the goalkeeper’s life to ensure that his club met the UEFA licensing requirements.
