No more hand-kissing

And the inevitable happens: Berlusconi in a show of appreciation for one of Muammar Gaddafi's security guards

AFP reports on an interview which Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini gave to Italy’s Radio24.

He brushed away the domestic controversy about Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi kissing Muammar Gaddafi’s hand at an Arab League summit last year.

It’s “a small thing linked to domestic politics,” he said, pointing out how other countries lavished hospitality on Gaddafi.

He implied that this sort of behaviour is now very much in the past, because since the start of the uprising against him “we have noted a situation that is completely different and we have seen the leader of a country firing on his own people. From that moment the international community said enough,” he added.

“The media is treating this almost as a reality show and sometimes I doubt whether some of the images we see are stage managed,” he said.

Is John Dalli referring to the stages ‘sermons’ by Gaddafi?

Since when is live news compared to a reality show? Buffu iehor.

I saw a stage managed scene this morning: Saif Al Islam Gaddafi walking and smiling in the street. No one approached him. He looked as though he fell from the sky and hardly knew where to go.

The head of the LSE resigned because of the links with Gaddafi and Libya.

The LSE received “donations” from Gaddafi which are now viewed as having tainted its reputation.

I wonder if any enterprising Maltese journalist will take the PL on and carry out some research on whether it ever received similar donations. I won’t hold my breath.

Guttenberg resigns over a plagiarised PhD and Berlusconi wallows in scandals and is still in office. What a disgrace.

I cannot understand Italy. It has some great brains and some great companies, universities doing world-class research. It has brave people fighting their personal, private battles against corruption, organised crime and more. Yet the country cannot get out of the morass it’s in. The cold war is over, the compromises of the past are not needed anymore.

“Berlusconi in a show of appreciation for one of Muammar Gaddafi’s security guards” – who hardly seems to be in a mood to recriprocate aas Ruby Rubacuori did. Coincidentally gold watches seem to be part of the lavish security guard uniforms. Also worth noting is Gaddafi’s hand gesture behind Berlusconi’s back. Pictures speak louder than words.

Besides the hand gesture, why is Gaddafi behind Berlusconi’s back? And why is Silvio “I did not have sex with that prostitute” Berlusconi so happy?

I’m still waiting for Frattini’s “biblical exodus” of millions of Africans taking the opportunity of escaping from Libya. Any sign of them?
