Brussels. European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has taken a political risk on Wednesday when he said it is time for Moamer Kadhafi to step down. European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, on the other hand, only speaks in case of a European consensus, writes Belgian Le Soir daily.
Meanwhile, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy John Dalli said nobody has the right to say that Kadhafi has to leave. Before working for the EU, Mr Dalli did business with Libya. Yesterday, he said to regret the wrong impression that he does not support Barroso’s words.

The impression Dalli gave was not only that he does not support Barroso but that he supports Gaddafi. He regrets the former but not the latter, apparently.
Don’t you think it would be more pertinent for the Belgian Le Soir to tell us which are those European countries (maybe including their own) who have supplied Gaddafi with all those weapons, with he is using to massacre his own people, instead of repeating Mr Dalli’s misquoted remarks.

It’s not as if those weapons sales were secret. They were all in the public domain, and in most cases they were approved by a parliamentary vote.
Misquoted remarks? Kindly indicate which were those remarks of his that were misquoted, if you please.
And by the way, using John Dalli’s reasoning, who are you to dictate what Le Soir should or shouldn’t comment on? I think Le Soir should take its own decisions.

The only way of stopping the bloodshed in Libya is for the interim Benghazi Committee to accept Gaddafi’s offer to negotiate and allow him to leave with just his family and money. This will make his close supporters realise that he only wants to save his neck and abandon them to their fate.
Can anyone remember the time when members of a Maltese ministerial delegation led by John Dalli to Libya were involved in a bad car accident on some desert road and reports leaked out that one of the injured parties was his brother Bastjan? We never got to know what he was doing there as part of that delegation. Shady and fishy from day one.
