Tonio Borg wins the praise of Il-Kolonna tal-Partit
Reno Calleja, Il-Kolonna tal-Partit Laburista
Reno Calleja has had written for him an article published under his name in The Times today (well, maybe he wrote it in Maltese and some kind soul translated it).
His praise for Tonio Borg is fulsome, which leads me to wonder out loud once more whether he isn’t worried that Mintoffian dinosaurs and those who admire them are tripping over themselves to praise him while many of those who, like me, actually voted Nationalist have reacted with scorn and contempt.
Here’s Reno Calleja on the subject of Tonio Borg:
The person who, by his bold action, responds to Dr Vella Bardon’s arguments is Foreign Minister Tonio Borg. Hands off Malta, he warned Nato. We are a neutral state. We are all out to help in the humanitarian mission but do not use Malta to launch any military attack on Libya.
This could have been Dr Gonzi’s finest hour. Had he offered to bring peace between Gaddafi and the rebels, history would have considered him a statesman. Instead, he chose to be a common politician.
While he praises the foreign minister for his Mintoffian reaction, he is scathing about the prime minister who was not Mintoffian enough.

Has Labour issued a statement distancing itself from this one like they did after Reno’s appearance on Xarabank, yet?
Reno Calleja did not exhort “mediation” when his friends in China were using tanks to massacre students in Tienanmen Square.

This old-fashioned kolonna mkissra tal-Partit Laburista is now going too far. We know what sort of conscience he had when it came to those Chinese students who faced the tanks in Tiananmen Square and were killed or sent to concentration camps following the ‘spring of freedom’. He will always be a blot on the Labour Party’s history, just like his mentors.

Perhaps “Il-Kolonna’s” memory is not able to ake him back to Tianamen Square, because he has such a small brain.
No one would expect any better from a man who has eulogised the regime in China for the past forty years.
To him, running over human beings with tanks is acceptable.
Killing millions of your fellow countrymen is normal if it is in the interest of the ruling party.
No wonder he does not consider an attempt to save hundreds of thousands of Libyans from certain and officially announced death a humanitarian mission.
In his pet country they count massacres in seven zeroes.
This Kolonna is or was a self-declared admirer of the Soviet Union under Brezhnev.

Allow me to disagree of your criticism towards Gonzi and Tonio Borg. We have only one civilian airport, we have a meaningless army , what do you expect us to do ? this war might never end, Gheddafi might remain in power. We are too small to get involved into wars, and it does not make any difference if Nato uses its bases in Sicily and Cyprus , so why should we get involved? We will not change the course of history anyway.

Malta is involved. It just isn’t taking any military action or collaborating directly with anyone who’s doing the dirty work so we don’t have to.
Mark, once again it has to be repeated that while NATO can manage without bases in Malta, our contribution – even a token one – to the military actions to liberate Libya is necessary for our own self-respect.
These dangerous dissidents! They should all be jailed. Then democracy will flourish.

Tonio Borg is Labour’s hero now, with the likes of Reno Calleja praising ‘Tony ta’ Adele’ for his courage in standing up against the bloody nerve of the coalition forces who wanted to use us.
Next I suggest Labour invites our minister of foreign affairs to Super One’s studio. It looks like they’re missing John Dalli already.
