Il-Kolonna tal-Partit: "this is the African and Arab culture"

Former Labour Party big shot Reno Calleja, now rehabilitated under the Old Labour Returnees Scheme put into effect by Joseph Muscat, has taken to the timesofmalta.com comments-board to tell us to Mark His Words.

I am not at all surprised that the Nato planes killed a number of people they are supposed to protect. Every week the U.S. drones kill tens of innocent children, women and old people in Pakistan and Afghanstan.

What is really terrifying is that the missiles that are being used to destroy Ghadafi’s weaponary are uranium tipped. Witness what happened in Iraq. Hundreds of children are diagnised with cancer every month because the uranikum used in the missiles, fired by the U.S., will continue to affect the immune system of the Iraqi population for generations to come. . The situation in Libya cannot be solved by military means.

A politcal solution is needed. As I predicted in the Xarabank programm the war is going to be long and bloody. This is a tribal war. Mark my words. It fhe Benghazi tribe will win, they will butcher thousands of people from Ghadafi’s tribe. The Shiites are still killing and torturing Sunnis every day in Iraq. This is the Arab and African culture. That is why the West cannot impose its own brand of ‘democracy’. The U.S. and the U.K. and France never seem to learn from history

F**king idiot. Misleading or misled, calling it uranium instead of depleted uranium.

And of course the drones never kill any adult male combatants. Just women, children and old people. A propagandist’s dream team.

    • The King's Breech says:

And he fails to mention how many innocent children and women those adult combatants kill (deliberately). But I suppose that’s also fine because it’s part of their culture too.

  4. C Falzon says:

He finds it terrifying that NATO uses uranium tipped missiles to shoot at Gaddafi’s weapons but it doesn’t seem to bother him that Gaddafi shoots uranium tipped shells into civillians. Perhaps as long as the civillians aren’t pro-Gaddafi then it doesn’t matter.

That of course aside from the matter that he has his facs wrong, as one would expect of him.

None of the missiles currently being used are ‘uranium tipped’, or uranium anythinged for that matter. The only uranium that is (possibly) being used by the coalition is by the A10 (Warhog) ground attack planes and the AC130 (Spooky) gunships in the bullets of their machine guns. These are being used very sparingly, mostly because they need to fly low and are thus more vulnerable to ground fire.

I say possibly because there is in place a program to replace uranium by a tungsten alloy in these weapons (less effective but not toxic) but I’ve no idea at what stage that is, or even if it has started at all.

Although I am not 100% sure, at least some of the ammunition fired by Gaddafi’s tanks and anti-tank weapon are indeed uranium KE projectiles.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

DU munitions are just media-friendly scare-words for the uninitiated. Such as our genius Reno Calleja. The cancer risk from DU is about as high as having a residence in Marsa.

  5. Red nose says:

Reno Calleja, how many Chinese students were massacred at Tienamen Square. How many dissidents disappear (daily) in China. I suppose the less you speak the better

  6. Clifford says:

How does he know that the allies’ missiles are uranium tipped? What study is he quoting when he says that ‘hundreds of children are diagnosed every month because (of) the uranium in the missiles’?

  7. Antoine Vella says:

I’m not surprised about Calleja’s ignorance of weaponry or his predictable anti-Americanism. He’s an old Mintoffjan after all.

What is more repugnant however is his casual racist comment: Arabs and Africans are not fit for democracy.

  8. Red nose says:

Are the Chinese fit for democracy?
