About that machine-gun-toting-thug's daughter….

Parliament, 1986

I’m not going to bother commenting on the findings of the Press Ethics Commission (though I will upload the full report when I finally get hold of it in Word Document format) because Lou Bondi, on his blog, has said exactly what I would have written. You’ve got to read it.

This is one of my favourite bits:

Joe Mizzi fell to the ground once. Yet Julia Farrugia published a version of the video showing two falls, the same one repeated. Nifty. Maybe for an encore Julia Farrugia will now show us a video in which Raymond Caruana is shot twice in the PN Gudja club.

Oh, and did I mention that the machine-gun-toting thug was driver to Karmenu Vella, the man who will be running our economy as Minister of Finance in just 18 months?

This photograph shows Vella about to rise from his seat in parliament to cross the floor and assault Eddie Fenech Adami, leader of the Opposition. He and other Labour MPs and ministers who joined him in the attempted attack were held back.

Fenech Adami had just stood up to deliver his response to the budget speech, and instead said – in one of the most famous speeches of his entire political career – that he would be doing no such thing because a young man had just been shot dead and he was going to speak about that far more important matter.

The response from the Labour benches was predictably violent.

Is the first guy standing on the left Joe Grima?

    • Mandy Mallia says:

Yes, of course it is. Watch very closely from 4.00 to roughly 4.20 on this video to verify. His shape is unmistakable, so you can’t miss him.

Some of these images are of course iconic and we have lived with them for decades. Yet many of the people in them remain anonymous. Can somebody put a name to the disgusting bloke at 1:05, please?

    • Village says:

No. That is Wistin Abela also a Labour Minister.

    • Min Weber says:

At first I thought it was Philip Muscat, then I realized he was in his place looking in the direction of Karmenu Vella. So, yes, it must be a younger and leaner Joe Grima. Lean as in “lean pigmeat”.

      • Min Weber says:

Actually, Muscat was looking in the direction of Fenech Adami.

What I find disgusting in this whole sordid affair is that these people do not know what shame is.

Take Karmenu Vella. He was somehow involved in some smuggling activity. So was Johnny Dalli, sitting there at the back catcalling and shouting insults.

Somehow Vella’s name crops up in connection with the Raymond Caruana killing. And yet, he has the nerve to present himself again and again as candidate to represent the people.

Candidate comes from the Latin candidus: meaning “clear and white”. Yes, everything but.

    • David Buttigieg says:

      That is definitely Wistin Abela.

      Equally abominable!

      • Tanya says:

Yes, it’s Wistin. That pig. Jaqq. The tragic thing is that none of the stupid Labour elves know anything about this. That’s why they think their party is liberal and progressive.

        Jaqq jaqq jaqq

Thank you for the link. My respect for the man has just been restored to its former heights. Were it not for him and the rest of that team, we would have been in the same boat as Libya. Those were such dark and uncertain times.

The prospect of having these people at the helm again sends shivers down my spine. The younger ones know nothing of this, but I cannot forgive the older ones for throwing caution into the air, for risking it all.

      • Tanya says:

My God, the sight of Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, the prime minister, laughing qisu iblah while Fenech Adami talks about death, violence and the decimation of liberty.

The only one who looks even remotely unnerved and troubled is Freddie Micallef, who is caught by the camera looking towards his party leader for reassurance, only to see him grinning inanely.

And what the hell is that Karmenu Vella? The nerve the Labour Party has, putting him forward again now as the man who is writing their electoral programme.

        Vote Labour? Inz**ab.

Why don’t they go and tie a millstone round their necks and throw themselves off Dingli cliffs. Irrovinaw pajjiz.

  2. Kurt Mifsud Bonnici says:

“Oh, and did I mention that the machine-gun-toting thug was driver to Karmenu Vella, the man who will be running our economy as Minister of Finance in just 18 months?”

Is it that much of a certainty that these cretins will be in government? 18 months is a long time .. I’m sure the chav party will commit a couple of other serious gaffes by then.

  3. Malcolm Bonnici says:

“Maybe for an encore Julia Farrugia will now show us a video in which Raymond Caruana is shot twice in the PN Gudja club.”

What’s all this about Raymond Caruana. It seems to me that the murderer of Raymond Caruana is a known secret. Am I right or is there something I’m not getting?

What a pity that thousands of voters do not even know who Dom Mintoff and KMB were.

  6. Silverbug says:

They’re keeping it all in the family: Karmenu Vella’s son has just married Miriam Dalli tas-Super One. So many neutrals, the Pl is colourless!

    • Tanya says:

Oh my, then given what was said around the time of the birth, she might well be Julia Farrugia’s sister-in-law. Il-Botom was one hell of an ugly bugger.

    @ Daphne:

“(though I will upload the full report when I finally get hold of it in Word Document format)”

If it’s in pdf format, you might wish to try this:

[Daphne – It’s not an actual PDF but a scan of a printed document, so this won’t work.]
    http://www.pdftoword.com/

    • Neil Dent says:

No need to post this Daphne as it’s just for your own info, but you can very easily convert a jpeg or bmp scan to PDF format, with Photoshop or Acrobat for example, or very likely the scanner/printer software can do it too. I’m sure you know this mind you…..

      [Daphne – Too many errors.]

    • Mandy Mallia says:

It is possible to scan a document and convert it to text, but it is not foolproof, and errors can occur.

  8. Charlie says:

While on holiday in Malta I saw you with your husband. You were wearing a bikini but there was this fat man who kept bothering you. Do you get this a lot in Malta?

[Daphne – The fat man was Natius Farrugia. He wasn’t bothering me ‘in that way’ because he’s into men. His issues are political. Yes, I get this a lot in Malta, which is why I rarely go out, and when I’m away from the island, I rarely go in.]

    • Ronnie the Bear says:

Bloody chavs – you can’t go anywhere nowadays without running into them. Maybe he was bothering you because he fancied your husband. He’s dedicated inches of his Facebook wall to repeated references to how big and hairy he is. To think that this is the kind of mayoral candidate the Labour Party can come up with. Il-vera hamalli. Kif qal xi hadd iehor hawnhekk: peasants with pitchforks, one generation on. Now they’re peasants with Fejsbuk.

    Read this:

Debono’s ferocious attack is being unleashed while Mifsud Bonnici is in hospital. Despicable.

  10. psaila says:

That Natius Farrugia is one silly man. Really.

    • Ronnie the Bear says:

Infantile and retarded. Now he’s in Barcelona and keeps posting regular updates on his Facebook wall. He eats a dish of paella and immediately tells his fans about it. He goes swimming, ditto. He goes for a stroll, ditto. It’s only a matter of time before he tells us how some dark and hairy Spaniard got him up against the wall of a public lavatory. Viva l-ex sindku taz-Zurrieq.

Is he related to Julia – or is Farrugia a really common village surname there?

  11. NGT says:

“Oh, and did I mention that the machine-gun-toting thug was driver to Karmenu Vella, the man who will be running our economy as Minister of Finance in just 18 months?”

Hmmm, not quite sure he will be. But I get a feeling that you’ll be reminding us again at some stage… and why not?

For all their airs and graces they sure have a lot of skeletons in their closets.

  12. Lawrence says:

Would you do me a favour and don’t remind me of these episodes, please. Thanks.

    • Tanya says:

Lawrence, we hate being reminded but it’s important to remember that people like the Labour elves never even found out. Who was going to tell them – il-ma u l-pa?

      • Lawrence says:

Tanya, I know what you mean, but when my children, who are 23 and 15, complain about actual situations my wife and I are the first to tell them about what we went through, although my son thinks that sometimes we exaggerate the stories.

    • jenny says:

It is important that we are reminded of the rotten life we lived when Mintoff and then Karmenu Zero were prime ministers. We should also inform our youngsters about the”Reign of Terror” in our not so far away history. I am so worried because our future does not seem so bright.

  13. TROY says:

Julia, ask ‘daddy’ where he was when Raymond Caruana was murdered.

    • Tanya says:

Oh, you never know, Troy. He might have been off having a quick one with a Labour Pom Pom girl, and used that little escapade with a gun as an alibi not to get into trouble with his wife, who was at home helping Julia with her homework.

  14. Joe Micallef says:

    Has anyone considered the following?

Of the two main political parties, taking into consideration their higher organisation echelons, which one has changed most over the past 20 years?

  15. jenny says:

All of them are rotten to the core.

  16. Mark Vella says:

The full text of the Commission’s decision in the case against Julia Farrugia can be downloaded using this link: http://www.maltapressclub.org.mt/decizjoni-PEC-Mizzi-Farrugia-22-08-2011.pdf

  17. red nose says:

And they are “proud” of their GLORIOUS past! I do not blame them – AST, Joe Grima, Debono Grech, Karmenu Vella and a few more, are back in the sty.
