Daphne, what do you think about Muscat trying to copy Eddie Fenech Adami’s ‘Gvern Immexxi minni’ phrase. It sounded so false from this man.
Can you imagine him in government trying to control Joe Debono Grech, Alex Sceberras Trigona, Karmenu Vella etc,. if they ever get a chance of governing this country? Yeah right….Gvern immexxi minni……………..I just can’t stop laughing….or crying…………..wow what mixed feelings………
Muscat is digging up and copying all the old PN catchphrases, probably because he thinks they were what kept the PN in government for more than 20 years.
“Is-Sewwa jirbaħ żgur” was one such slogan, as are Muscat’s claim that he has faith in Malta and his urging people to have courage.
I have to say this recycling of old PN slogans is slightly offensive. The phrases and concepts belong to the civil resistance movement during the grim years of the Mintoff-KMB regime and Muscat is trivialising them into a parody.
Incidentally, to go back to real and fictitious qualifications, Muscat’s biography in the parliamentary website says he holds a “Ph.D in Management Research” while his own website is now claiming he has a “Dottorat fl-Ekonomija u Ricerka Manigerjali”.
This is an important detail not because of the degree as such but because Muscat seems to be faking his qualifications, as regards economics, which doesn’t do much to enhance his credibility.
I wouldn’t be surprised.
You might find academics at the university ‘faking’ their qualifications, let alone the dubious academic merit of some people awarded doctorates by the University of Malta as qualifiers for employment at the same university.
The proof is in discussion papers that are highly critical of papers published by these ‘academics’ from Malta.
L-aqwa li ghandhom ‘gopp’ fl-Universita’ u paga diehla.
Obama made his short and long versions public when he was accused that he was not borne in America.
Muscat should do the same. He should publish the certificate and details of his degree.
The short and long versions in Obama’s case refer of course to his birth certificate.
There’s something shifty about that look. Like that of someone who’d fart just before stepping out of a crowded elevator.
Shifty? More like “the lights are on, but nobody’s home”.
OK. Let’s say that it’s like the look of someone whose lights are on, but nobody’s home and who has just farted in an elevator.
Labour and their grandiose titles. Salvatur, Mexxej, Leader, Doktor, ….
Anyway, Joseph may be Luciano’s leader, and good luck to them both, but it will take a bit more than hair spray decorating an empty head to make somebody a real leader.
PL use Mexxej PN use Kap
Mexxej reminds me of communist china where the great leader decides, he knows all, the ignorant masses follow
Kap reminds me more of a CEO, who’s success depends on teamwork with top management.
[Daphne – It’s not quite like that. In English, the correct word is ‘leader’. David Cameron is the Conservative leader, not the head of the Conservative Party. Ed Miliband is the Labour leader. You have the Leader of the Opposition, not the head of the Opposition, and Gonzi and Muscat are party leaders not party heads. The Labour Party calls its leader ‘mexxej’ because it is the closest translation of ‘leader’ (same root as ‘messiah’, incidentally). Labour were ‘British’, remember, and Anglophone, hence the party name, Malta Labour Party. The Nationalist Party looked to Italy, and so their leader was il capo, hence kap. But when speaking or writing idiomatic English, it’s got to be party leader, not party head, whatever word they use in Maltese.]
Correct me if I am wrong, but Dr Eddie Fenech Adami said it when he was Prime Minister (in situ) not as a Leader of the Opposition (dreaming)…that makes a lot of a difference, no?
[Daphne – ?]
I think Richard is referring to the comment made by David Meilak above. I think he’s right in saying the Fenech Adami used the phrase “gvern immexxi minni” when he was already PM, and not when he was Leader of Opposition.
[Daphne – Yes, that’s right. He used the expression when he was prime minister. When he was leader of the Opposition, he had far more serious things to be getting on with.]
You mean…getting on with … ie getting beaten up by Mintoff’s thugs and pseudo police.
It appears that the Labour MP’s were given some sort of ‘marketing’ instructions to use Facebook on a daily basis to keep in touch with the younger generation.
And as usual made a grand cockup out of it.

“Tonight will be listening attentively to my leader’s Budget speech”. ‘My leader’, my god!
I hope he listened and reflected and had an Alka Selzer handy soon after.
