Joseph the faux ekonomista is on Super One right now

Published: November 25, 2011 at 10:17pm

Having received a few text messages urging me to do so, I have switched on the television and flipped to Super One, where John Bundy (jahasra) and Joseph Muscat are seated on thrones on a stage before an audience, talking in-tall-ak-chwilly while the audience have their minds blown.

Or at least Joseph does the talking, throwing in lots of ekonomista words like ‘progetti kapitali’ while John wears his habitual expression of somebody trapped by a cocktail party bore, staring fixedly, eyes wide open, nodding occasionally while wishing he was elsewhere.

Joseph has upped the grooming stakes, I see. He’s discovered double cuffs, expensive shirts and cuff-links. Too bad he can’t carry them off.

Oh, and he must have hung on to that can of (literally) hair spray, because the hair is back again today: shade sabih hafna ta’ strawberry blond.

Too bad you can’t buy some spray in a can to bulk up your IQ. He’s just said, would you believe, that this is one of the worst governments of all time.

I just adore Bundy’s interviewing technique: sit back, give your guest a hand-held mike (primitive – typical Super One) and let him speak about what he wants to for as long as he wants to.

OMG. I don’t believe this. They only have one mike between them and that’s why Bundy’s not interjecting or asking questions – because he has to do so off mike (Joseph won’t let it go), and has just done so.

PATHETIC. What qamel. Dak biex ikunu solidali mal-poplu batut, jaqaw?

Bambin ehlisna.

lol he is ready to give his life for Malta … Mahatma Joseph Gandhi

  2. DV says:

They had a technical fault in the middle of the interview. They didn’t have a mike in the beginning. I noticed that John Bundy’s programmes often have these sort of problems. I think it’s his production company that’s crap.

U veru Bambin ehlisna. “Wijjhed”. “Minnghalijjjom”.

Our future Prime Minister is not even able to speak Maltese properly let alone run the country.

  4. Cportelli says:

What I don’t like about Joseph (apart his hair) is his attitude – why so much arrogance when he hasn’t done anything yet.

    Nothing to do with the subject , but this evening I got a call at home that reminded me exactly of this;

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20110615/local/microsoft-malta-warns-of-harmful-scam.370729

Can someone please give me a phone number where I can make a report to Microsoft Malta?

    Thank you.

    • A Grech says:

Dee, that report came out in June 2011 – it is foolish for anyone to give info either on the phone or through emails when asked for personal information about bank account, password, etc.

      • Dee says:

I know it came out in June. But I received a similar call yesterday. That is why I was wondering if someone could direct me on how to contact Microsoft Malta so that I will alert them of the possibility that these hoax calls were being made again.

Your folk are in Malta looking for you. Quick Joey before they leave! They’re in Floriana or Bahar ic-Caghaq.

Bambin Ehlisna (minnhom) Joseph and the missus.

She will be there climbing up those Castille steps, every day, for any excuse imaginable – perhaps even to redesign the facade of the Auberge, with a Juliette balcony over the main door, to celebrate her birthday a la Evita Peron.

  8. Harry Purdie says:

I cannot believe that this charlatan is passing himself off as an economist, never mind a future PM.

    Please, people, get serious.

We’re about to enter a depression, with the Euro disintegrating. We need a safe pair of hands, not an incompetent idiot.

Gonzi, I am sure, is working on a ‘plan B’, At least, he understands what a plan is. Little Joey is only interested in his hair(less) colour.

He’s not allowed to carry the spray-on can of hair through customs on trips to Brussels.

I cant believe it. At THIS time of the night , Astrid Vella is on ONE radio giving advice on enviormental issues, the IMF, MEPA, Gozo affairs, mental illness, traffic etc.

Some days ago I was talking to an Italian friend of mine on Skype, we never talked about politics , we usually talk about gardening, family and our daily lives. He surprised me on how relieved he was about getting rid of Berlusca and now they have this learned economist and technocrat as Italy’s prime minister Sig. Mario Monti .
My reply was that people vote for the representatives they deserve, he agreed.

Yesterday I read Hermann Schiavone’s article on the Times http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20111125/opinion/When-technocrats-run-the-show.395397

His observation about technocrats made me think about Joseph’s electoral strategy ,that’s were his eyes are set, after all.

As Schiavone pointed out in his article, the trend in Europe is that we are having people who are EXPERTS in the economy being asked to run countries which crashed into a solid wall due to irresponsible populist policies. His argument is that we don’t need technocrats to lead our country.

My suspicion is that Joseph Muscat is posing as a technocrat/politician and that HE’s got solutions because HE knows how our economy should be run. HE’s the solution…Mr Fix-it.

Now we all recall that we had an economist as Prime Minister twelve years ago who was surgical in his thoughts and as far as IQ is concerned Alfred Sant is one of the best brains there is in our parliament, he lacks emotional intelligence, he’s cold and ruthless in his reasoning.

[Daphne – For the zillionth time, Alfred Sant was and is not an economist. He has no background in economics. His degrees are in maths and physics and in business administration.]

Even if Joseph Muscat was an economist I wouldn’t trust him as Prime Minister. From the little he did he’s got a bad track record and he thinks he’s the best economist Malta ever had.Malta does not need an economist for a prime minister. Itt needs a prime minister who knows how to balance between what the people really need and what the country can afford.

We don’’t need another “Sappi tuttu” as Herbert Ganado used to refer to Mintoff. Alll we need is a prime minister with a proven track record who accepts good advice from technical people who try their models before proposing them.

This Sargas publicity campaign on a coal-fired power station should serve as an eye opener on how frivolous our leader of the opposition is on buying or funding a one billion Euro power station, when we don’t really need it .There will be an inter-connector cable and a gas pipeline with mainland Europe before we can have this expensive power station.

I was baffled by Joseph Muscat’s dark red locks on Affari Taghna, when earlier this week he looked like this:

  14. Jozef says:

Oh, so he thinks his two hour long televised wish list suffices does he?

I cannot imagine how he’s going to deal with cabinet, parliamentary committee recommendations, MCESD meetings, MEPA, the central bank, EU legislation and its implementation, unions and their industrial disputes, ngo’s, lobby groups, the chamber of commerce, ministerial roles and their duplication, ambassadors and their missives, the church, minority groups, environmental associations…..need I go on?

And don’t give me he has a team, all the above require his being in the loop. If he won’t turn up for his own business, what the hell does he want? the glory?

Strawberry blond or raspberry jelly aside, that picture is the stuff of nightmares. Maaa x’biza.

  16. Jack says:

What about the credentials of Tonio Fenech, or those are not put into question?

[Daphne – Nobody is questioning anyone’s credentials, Jack. We’re questioning why some politicians in the Labour Party feel the need to say they are economists when they are not. That’s not because we think they should be economists, but because we think they shouldn’t lie.]

  17. hamlet says:

Daphne, you should be fair to him. If I remember well, the poor thing is colourblind. So it’s not entirely his fault if the shades of his hair change – it has to do with whoever is ordering the products for him. But the fake-hair spray …. no excuse for that.

  18. hamlet says:

Just found this on the Meusac portal (2007). You can’t blame the elves when they say that he is an economist!

Mr Joseph Muscat was born on January 22, 1974. He holds a Masters Degree in European Studies and is reading for a Ph.D in economics. He was part of a core team that set up the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprises which was established in agreement with the European Union and was granted EU funds for the restructuring of industry. At the age of 29 he was the youngest person to hold the post of chairman of the Malta Labour Party general conference during the sessions which forged the party’s new EU policy.
