This morning (for there is life outside Franco Debono)
I am glad to see that reason prevailed and contrary to the announcement by her father on Bondi+ last Thursday night, Mrs Zammit Xuereb did not speak ‘for the first time’ at her husband’s funeral this morning.
And the presence of the babies was very discreet.
The priest gave a good sermon, calling for society to unite behind all the families involved, and not to speculate or spread rumours.
The police commissioner also spoke this morning, in an interview with Andrew Azzopardi on Radio Malta. He said that some of the rumours and speculation being put about on the internet and in the press are ‘criminally irresponsible’, that some reporters do a good job but others actually disrupt police work, that he has involved himself in the investigation not just as the commissioner but as a seasoned investigator, and that his men will give a press conference about the case only when the investigations are completed.
He said he expected rumours to go wild. He also said that he would prefer it if the families of the dead were not to speak publicly and maintain silence instead.

Some sanity, at last.
Somebody must have read your blog, saw some sense, and acted on it.
Ah – finally, common sense prevails.
Do young women still wear veils to funerals?
[Daphne – Grieving widows that age are extremely rare, Dumbledore, so there is no basis for comparison. The widow generally does wear a veil, yes.]
