Well, The Times has certainly got itself a new sort of reader

An avid reader of timesofmalta.com, Martin Cassar, has told us what he thinks – yet again – on the comments-board, this time beneath the report on new suspicions about abuse in the Al Megrahi/Lockerbie trial.

Apparently, an escape goat spent time in prison for things he didn’t do. I knew you wouldn’t believe me, so I took a screen-shot.

Meanwhile, I suppose there’s only one thing for it.

The Times did not have the decency to apologise to its readers about the ‘US President Winston Churchill’ debacle. I know everyone is prone to making mistakes but at least admit to making the mistake, then show your readers some respect and apologise.

  2. Antoine Vella says:

Martin Cassar also boasts of his “ferocious criticism to the US”. Inspired, no doubt, by Anglu Farrugia’s famous speeches.

  3. Riff Raff says:

Its name was Steve McQueen. And it rode a motorbike.

These days, whenever I feel like some escapism, I turn to timesofmalta.com. Problem is that when I get to the comments section, contributors like Martin Cassar get my goat.

Libya couldn’t be a rouge state you see, it just didn’t have the intellectuals.

There’s KMB at it today as well. Looney time.

  6. Lomax says:

I burst out laughing so loudly when I read this post, that my colleague rushed into my office to see what was going on and then the two of us were hysterically laughing our heads off.

I swear I blinked twice to ensure that I was reading right then I saw the screen shot.

  7. Guzi says:

How about the rouge state? Red indeed.

  8. James says:

If he was an escape goat, why did he spend so much time in prison?

  9. A. Charles says:

I have stopped buying The Times but I am about to start buying it again; I am missing too manyh “cucati”.

An escape goat falsely imprisoned? I’m off to contact PETA.

  12. Joe says:

This ‘escape goat’ wasn’t a real Houdini if it remained in prison for many years.

I laughed but then I cried at this man’s sheer stupidity. He should stick to writing in Maltese, if he is capable of so doing.

Even John Attard Montalto is at it now… “Last Wednesday it was announced that the former head of military intelligence had been shot dead, five times, opposite his home.”

So John , let me get this right, the poor guy died five times?

  15. Lomax says:

    I’m still laughing :) I still can’t cry at this “gentleman’s” stupidity.

  16. Neil Dent says:

I believe an escape goat may be what Borat would use instead of a getaway car back in Tajikistan.

  17. Wayne Hewitt says:

    My ‘ferocious’ criticism… lol…

  18. Charles J Buttigieg says:

According to Wikiwiki, “Escape goat” was said on-air in 2002 by UK Big Brother reality show contestent Jade Goody. Scorned by millions, usage picked up, and now it’s widely said, by some knowingly aware of the joke, but others unknowingly. The mistake vaguely makes sense because people looking for a “scapegoat” are trying to “escape” blame.
“They were trying to use me as an escape goat,” said Jade.
