  1. H.P. Baxxter says:

Maltese journalism at its best: “Tikkonferma li int bladibla….”.

If they know something to be true why ask the politico to confirm it? Just publish and be damned. But no. We’re Maltese, hence ball-free, hence we will heckle and hound until we get the desired soundbite.

No wonder creeps like AST flourish in this “republic”.

    • Antoine Vella says:

They are not really asking him to confirm anything. They just want to get a reaction to an embarrassing (for Labour) situation. Well, they did get a ‘useful’ reaction: Sceberras Trigona played into their hands.

  2. Mark M says:

I love the ‘reconciliatory’ wave after having totally ignored the interviewer.

Have you seen the photo on this website? http://www.freewebs.com/maltakorea/
Guess who is wearing a pink shirt in the middle of the crowd?

  4. edgar says:

He has not changed one bit since I pushed him against a wall in 1987 in the Sliema secondary school just before voting started.

The two parties had agreed that no candidate of any party was to enter the voting halls, and I had stopped Dr. Michael Refalo and he obliged.

Then AST came along and the Labour counterpart told him that he cannot enter but he ignored him and went in. So I followed him into every room and after a while he approached me and grabbed my two-way radio and threw it on the floor.

At that point I lost it and pushed him against a wall. He understood that language and buggered off. After 25 years, Dr. Muscat has him as his right hand man. Very progressive.

  5. Riff Raff says:

Full marks to AST for keeping his cool.

That journalist was damn lucky not only because he was not beaten by thugs. He was not bestowed with the title of “Hmieg,” either.

These two comments are from timesofmalta.com. They clearly illustrate how support for Mintoff rests mostly on myths and very poor knowledge of facts.

Most people, even PN supporters and myself included, do not know certain facts.

The discussion on Mintoff is all amateurish. Mintoff had the foresight, I believe imported from Germany, of a functional education system, workers participation, avoidance of debt and small clustered manufacturing units. Only those countries who adopted such an approach has survived the crisis, especially in Europe.

Mintoff’s idea of “a functional education system” was copied from the Chinese at the time that they were rejecting it. I know this from the UN official who passed though Malta after a visit to China who was asked by Mintoff to explain the Chinese system of education.
As for German influence do you have to be reminded that Ralph Dahrendorf, a German educationist who had accepted to help Mintoff in his plans to reorganise education, felt that he had to resign, and criticise publicly, what Mintoff was implementing?

There is no one more blind than the person who has eyes but refuses to see.

    Dal-moghza vera liberali u progressiv…….. fil-Korea ta’ Fuq.

  8. GD says:

The student-worker scheme as far as medical students was concerned, was fashioned on the ‘barefoot-doctor’ scheme in of the Chinese education system under Mao.

And no wonder Mintoff sent his own children to get a university education in the Ewropa ta’ Kajjin.

  9. Martin says:

Besqilhom fis-sunnara, as we say in Maltese. Good for him.

[Daphne – Imagine if Austin Gatt were to have done that to Super One, Martin. Two weights and two measures with you lot. And you don’t even seem to grasp something that is perfectly obvious to me: that AST is playing the medieval aristocrat here to the NET peasant. Very progressive.]

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

In Maltese we say “bezqilhom.” But do carry on.

    • Jozef says:

Perhaps Martin would like to make some research into property ownership and the propitious deals made along Tower Road in the eighties.

Coincidentally Karmenu Vella was doing his fortune over there at the time as well.

      Medieval aristocrat indeed.

    • Gahan says:

“Bezqilhom is-sunnara” nghidu, Martin, mhux fis-sunnara, jigifieri ma belghax is-sunnara.

Ghalija AST ikkonferma li l-mawra ta’ Joseph ghal-Libja kellha tkun mistura.

Min ghex fi zmien Mintoff, minghajr ma’ jrid jibda jiftakar f’hiex konna meta kellna lil nies bhal-AST , Karmenu Vella u Leo Brincat ma’ saqajna.

Jien nghid li AST ipprova jghatti x-xemx bl-gharbiel; xorta nafu x’marru jaghmlu, u l-element tas-sorpriza/hasda li jhobb Joseph intilef kollu.

      • Martin says:

Seems we were both wrong. According to Aquilina it’s “Beżqilhom mis-sunnara”.

@ Baxxter – it’a “beżqilhom”, actually – ommitting the Maltese diacritical marks is considered to be as error.
