Hey, Joseph and Anglu – here’s some rope

Published: May 30, 2012 at 12:55pm

Franco Debono has just told Malta Today that he will vote neither for nor against Labour’s motion of no confidence in Carm Mifsud Bonnici.

If I were the Labour Party, I would consider throwing myself off a tall building at this point.

This is not the first time Labour has been led, panting enthusiastically, up the garden path by this political cock-teaser (I use the word ‘cock’ advisedly, given Franco’s much vaunted passion for birds in cages).

On this basis alone, we should make the assessment that Labour is unfit for purpose – not just the purpose of government, but also the purpose of Opposition.

It has spent years and years in Opposition and still hasn’t learned the ropes. Imagine then, how great it’s going to be at learning the job of government in a few months.

  2. ciccio says:

Do you think they will now bring a motion of no confidence in MP Franco Debono, hoping THIS ONE will pass with unanimity (less one vote)?

  3. Pat says:

Perhaps someone should consider a vote of no confidence in Franco Debono. You never know – perhaps by now both sides have had enough of him. I know I have.

[Daphne – Not possible. He has no ministerial position. Isn’t that the point? Only the electorate can dislodge a member of parliament.]

  4. Lilla says:

Franco Debono – one anti-climax after another.

Not only does Labour have blue ties and blue backdrops, they have blue balls now too.

  5. canon says:

Franco Debono is showing that Joseph Muscat is not fit to lead the country.

  6. Gatt says:

Have you watched the clip The Times filmed this morning? Am I the only one who finds Joseph Muscat’s walk amusing? It’s like he’s about to topple over with every step, slowly stumbling into Parliament.

[Daphne – Yes, I know. Really masterful. A sort of cross between a duck’s waddle and the shuffle of some woman who’s had a prolapse.]

  7. SC says:

They just show again and again they are not fit to govern. All they care about is getting into power. Their lack of political maturity is astonishing. I just hope the majority of people see this before the election.

  8. Anthony says:

If this is true, it follows that Muscat’s political naivety is utterly inexcusable.

The leader of the opposition is simply not fit for purpose.

Is he a masochist or what?

  9. Will somebody please edit Franco Debono into this ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U7_iNIgGjc

I almost pity the Socialists. After so much hype, this bubble seems to have burst in their faces, and the motion against Richard Cachia Caruana has already fizzled out and left them damaged.

They have just managed to waste time and harm themselves. If I were Prime Minister I would now not accept any further time-wasting motions, and proceed with the legislative programme. There is still a lot that needs to be done.

[Daphne – It’s the Speaker who accepts them, and not the prime minister. The prime minister is the boss of government, not parliament. Separation of powers, remember – that’s what this whole thing is supposed to be about in the first place.]

  11. Riff Raff says:

If we had 69 Franco Debonos in parliament, Malta’s troubles would be over very quickly.

  12. Bubu says:

He knows that if he does, his party will be over.

  13. Antoine Vella says:

Presumably, Franco Debono will adopt the same position regarding the motion on Richard Cachia Caruana.

  14. edgar says:

I am almost beginning to like Franco, because in my opinion he has caused much more damage to the PL than to the PN. But still would not touch him with a barge pole.

  15. Matt P. says:

One thing I know. If Franco ever did this in Mintoff’s time, he would be dead by now.

[Daphne – Interesting how this story was filed as ‘Franco Debono abstains’]

  17. Peter Mallia says:

    This article was rather premature.

  18. carmel says:

Fl-ahhar ghamila Franco Debono, and now GonziPN?

[Daphne – What about GonziPN, Carmel?]

  19. Terry Gosden says:

What funny snide remarks, sad in the real world. Proper assessment would be better, and more readable

  20. Paul Bonnici says:

I am sorry to see Carm Mifsud Bonnici, but I don’t think he was quite suitable for the job, you need guts to hold such a position. I think Minister Gatt would be better suited for this ministry.
