Are you serious !!! Why do you always take it with politics ? I guess you don’t have a life if you are always talking bad of people . I guess you don’t want that people will do you the same thing you are doing to them …

[Daphne – Oh dear. I see yet another joke has been interpreted as yet another massive personal attack on somebody’s very fragile ego.]

    • BC says:

Cheap research. First image cropping up on Google images.

[Daphne – First image for what? Franco’s car? I’m curious. Oh, and…research?]

      • el bandido guapo says:

Issa naghmlu degree course tar-research fuq Google Images u nassiguraw rwiehna li ma ntellawx ritratt sakemm ma ndumux infittxu ghalih tlett’ ijiem.

        Kemm qieghed sew.

    • Harry Purdie says:

Don’t think that you two are OK in the head. But that figures.

    • TinaB says:

My God, Tom, lighten up. You take life much too seriously.

  2. Frankie Narcono says:

Tom writes very poor English, faked ? Maybe he is married to Mary Mifsud

  3. Joseph (Not Muscat) says:

No, that’s not Franco’s. Hisis blue due to being the larger than life Nationalist.

  4. ciccio says:

It’s a pity that the MP’s car park in St. George’s Square has been removed. It would be such an attraction.

  5. Top class says:

A friend confirmed my very first guess, literally: BMW 1-series. The quintessential car for nouveau riche-types with little taste but ample desire to show off. Ideal for the middle-class Maltese fanfarun, specjalment ghax tista’ iggibhom second hand mill-Ingilterra b’8000 ewro kollox.

    • Whoami? says:

You couldn’t have put it better. And these idiots suddenly start referring to it as “il-BM”. Because saying it in full requires effort.

    • Qeghdin Sew says:

I thought it would be a Jaguar? Same thing; you can get them for relatively affordable prices from the UK, but the populace will be more impressed with the brand name over BMW.

It would also be interesting if you were to tell us what, according to you, is a good car in that price range for those with taste, since you seem to be all-so-knowing.

  6. Ganna says:

He drives a BMW. Nothing big nowadays – you see loads of them on the road, because people are working, have good jobs, and can afford them, not like the racanc we had before.

    • Qeghdin Sew says:

It is very ironic then that we still have to go overseas to haggle for these things. So the raċanċ mentality is still very much alive: it’s just shifted from ċikkulata Mars and linef from Catania to rusty cars from the UK.

      • el bandido guapo says:

Actually that’s just nonsense, drivel fed by “new car” importers to suit their agenda, and who would blame them*

What, pray, is the difference between buying a used car from Malta or one from any other EU country?

Here’s your answer: For the same money, you will buy a better car elsewhere.

Or don’t we have “rusty cars” in Malta? Or “racanc”?

*for attempting to restrict your and my choice to either a new, but below-spec and less than ideal vehicle (suits them fine) or an overpriced, battered wreck that has been repaired so many times, in which case one could possibly decide not to proceed and go to option one (suits them).

      • Qegħdin Sew says:

        @el bandido guapo

If I were in the market to replace my car, I would get a second-hand one from the UK rather than paying the extortionate prices asked by the Maltese agents – granted.

But it’s also true that the salt used for de-icing doesn’t do much good to the body of the car. This year wasn’t bad, but UK cars older than one year have suffered from that at some point in their existence.

  7. davidg says:

Oh come on, Tom. Show us yours, as we are definitely getting a life.

  8. ciccio says:

I knew it. Franco’s cock is so huge he keeps it parked in the garage.

  9. Ganni says:

Haha, fantastic. This is why I follow this blog religiously. The jokes are great, but the comments are wonderfully out of this world.

  10. Ken il malti says:

    I always liked the 73 Olds 98.

Nice mini cathedral tail-lights and it still had vestiges of 1950s tail-fins in the 1970s.

It rode like a comfy living-room on wheels with a Pope’s sofa for seating.

    • Harry Purdie says:

Sofa seats, Ken? Used to borrow my Dad’s ’51 Plymouth. (Happy Father’s Day, Dad) Amazingly comfortable back seat for the drive-in movies. Jeez, just unveiled my era.

    • ciccio says:

It sounds like it’s an exhilarating experience to have a ride on the Rooster (the 1973 edition, of course).

(This Rooster thing really cracked me up.)

  11. Frankie Narcono says:

BC – It comes up in Google images because of this article..

  12. dudu says:

Victor Laiviera, the timesofmalta.com resident commenter, making a fool of himself, yet again:

    Victor Laiviera
    Yesterday, 12:11
    Same old same old.

It would be more interesting if you told us what you think about the fact that Lawrence Gonzi invoked “collective cabinet responsibility” in the case of Austin Gatt but not in the case of Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici, who was abandoned to the wolves.

    Antoine Vella
    Yesterday, 14:08
Victor, calling Joseph Muscat and the Mintoffian MPs wolves is not like you. How about “was abandoned to the the chickens”?

  13. Matt B says:

Completely off topic, but Muscat, in today’s The Sunday Times, said the following:

‎”The Attorney General’s opinion was that there was no need for ratification. We’ve been given a different opinion.”

I can’t believe he had the gall to say this tripe. The implications behind this statement are enormous.

    • Angus Black says:

You will never know, but possibly the ‘different opinion’ may have come from Franco, the successful lawyer?

      Cock-a-doodle-dooooo…

    • RJC says:

A different opinion by whom? Labour’s great legal beagles? Franco? One wonders.

    • Jozef says:

If he thinks the Attorney-General is there to offer an opinion, the same, it follows, applies to the courts.

He also said the PL forms part of a movement now, the time for political parties over.

Slowly, very slowly, meaning is reduced.

I don’t see a movement with distinct participants, what I see is the party encompassing everything. Institutions, authorities, unions and the media will subscribe.

One could ask or else what.

      • ciccio says:

What is peculiar is that the movement does not have a movement leadership. It is led by the party functionnaires. I don’t think it’s fair for the movement.

How are the non-party parts represented in the leadership and ‘taht it-tinda’?

  14. C Falzon says:

“Cabinet members of short-lived Labour government granted full pension”

Though the loophole could just as easily be exploited by the PN it does make me rethink what might be the motivations of certain people in the PL to quickly win the election and to hell with what happens later. An early government collapse would just get the pension earlier.

I don’t think the paltry sum would be of much interest to the Leader, but I think there are quite a few others to whom it would be.

He could still though look forward to the title of the Shortest Prime Minister of Malta and perhaps even Prime Minister of the Shortest Legislature of Malta.

The Labour cabinet on the other hand will likely be quite a large one to make sure that it is very ‘inclusive’.

  15. Paul Bonnici says:

Daphne, this is one reason why Franco behaves the way he does and why Dr Mifsud Bonnici had to resign:

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120617/local/Attacker-s-girlfriend-hits-out-over-sentence-delay.424571

These stories of delayed justice upset immensely. If the PN cannot get it right, what hope do we have under a LP administration?

  16. xmun says:

timesofmalta.com reports that today, Joseph Muscat made fun of an e-mail sent by Austin Gatt and received by several Labour MPs, including him, urging them to campaignfor the PN and to spread its message because without them, the party could not win.

Those who received that email must have subscribed to MyChoice.pn, Be a Prime Minister for a day and the other web based initiatives introduced by the PN.

If Joseph Muscat and his MPs received this email, then they must have subscribed to try and become a Prime Minister for a day.

    • Dee says:

I received that email as well and I am no MP. It was sent to anyone who subscribes to the mychoice.pn site. I suppose then, that for Joseph, the PN is hischoice after all.

    • Angus Black says:

“If Joseph Muscat and his MPs received this email, then they must have subscribed to try and become a Prime Minister for a day”

That would have been the closest he will ever come to becoming PM, but alas, he failed to make it, since a young lady won the contest..

    • Qegħdin Sew says:

Or to see for themselves what those sites are all about before they can criticise them? Labour is doing its research on something (no matter how trivial) for once. What’s wrong with that?

    • RJC says:

Re xmun’s last para, Joseph Muscat probably saw that as his only chance before his 39th birthday.

    • Eman says:

That’s pretty a good reason why one should be aware of who is receiving such mail.

    • Jozef says:

And does he think Austin Gatt didn’t notice? What a plonker, this is even better than the Sabrina affair.

  17. Taks Fors says:

Oh how I miss my Skoda cilesti. Labour was so kind to me and for my work I was even ready to upgrade to a Lada before the Nasty Nats came to power and ruined all my plans.

  18. ciccio says:

Daphne, will you be running a competition about suggestions of what should be on Franco’s number plate?

Of course, anything like this will not be allowed.

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120617/cartoons/Islanders.424596

  19. Jozef says:

He should get himself a Smart for(m)two

  20. Li Ding says:

    @ xmun

Seriously, I don’t think so. I received Austin Gatt’s email yet never subscribed to any of those PN features.

  21. Frankie's Barrage says:

Yesterday’s Malta Today front page article (saw it at the newsagents as I don’t buy that rag) seems to indicate that Salvu wants to drop Franco like a hot potato.
