The Nationalist Party’s press conference this afternoon

Published: July 24, 2012 at 4:45pm

L-ewwel infotti l-kullhadd, imbaghad immur nixrob l-inbid Asti halli nkun daqxejn relax.

So now it’s out: it was Joseph Muscat who passed on the information at a social gathering some days before the last general election, to people linked to the Nationalist Party, that Alfred Sant would be targetting Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando.

Yes, I remember hearing this at the time.

Except that Pullicino Orlando kept denying that he had a contract and was only forced to admit it on 6th March, two days before polling day, when Sant finally produced his contract on television.

The sum of it is that Joseph Muscat used Pullicino Orlando to become Leader of the Opposition, and now he has used Pullicino Orlando again to become prime minister.

And none of this bothers him as he holidays in Asti, tasting wine. Bit of a cold fish, isn’t he.

How typical of Muscat to reason that the end justifies the means.

At this rate I think that what JPOS will be getting from this man in one year’s time is egg on his face and little else.

    Forsi harab mil-pajjiz, jew?

  4. Mister says:

Joseph Muscat has a lot of explaining to do between bouts of tippling in Asti. Or is it Barolo?

  5. tediber says:

This is a really huge deal. I can’t understand why there isn’t more of a storm being kicked up about it.

    Don’t shoot the messenger.

  7. Leo Said says:

While viewing the video clip on timesofmalta.com, I could not be convinced of anyconclusive evidence.

The feature with Dr. Joseph Muscat has no tag re date and location, as is usual with similar clips used as reference.

I would have expected more tangible details from Dr. Paul Borg Oliver. Would hints of simple nature have any legal weight?

    • Raphael Dingli says:

In addition why wasn’t all of the press invited to the press conference?

Political should be expected to take questions form all of the press – not just selected ones who may not put the hard questions.

  8. Frans Cassar says:

I have just read some of the comments on timesofmalta.com about the PN press conference this afternoon. Most of them target the PN and its secretary-general.

I am a bit confused, it’s either that PN are really in deep trouble or else the truth is hurting a lot of people, and as in the past when PL supporters react, they react by being aggressive and intimidating.

Let’s see what happens next, but to date only this blog is asking questions about what Labour intends to do if elected to govern. Seems to me that we heading into a brick wall.

    • ciccio says:

Frans, I did not read or look at those comments. However, from what you say, this matter is hurting the Malta Labour Party, and they have brought out the ‘elves’ to defend the party.

    • Neil Dent says:

Read the Times article. The clip was from a TV debate on the 28th of February, 2008. Exactly one week prior to Dr. Sant producing the contract live, in the final TV debate on the 6th of March.

      • Neil Dent says:

@ Daphne – apologies, this comment was meant in reply to Leo Said, not Frans Cassar.

  9. U-turns u Kutrumbajsi says:

I find it hard to believe he has such foresight. So sinister, yes.

But such foresight requires a scheming plan at a level which his intellect does not permit.

  10. Lomax says:

Anglu Farrugia was invited to Sicily to speak during an anti-Mafia activity to mark the 20th anniversary from the day when Borsellino and Falcone.

He said: Jiena niggieled il-koruzzjoni “at all levels” u ghalhekk ghazluni.

    Tal-biki u tal-wahx f’ daqqa.

    • Antoniette says:

I watched him saying that on TVcould not believe his smug expression. I wonder if he actually believes he is that person. The man has no shame. I totally agree, tal-biki u tal-wahx.

  11. Peter Pan says:

When you hear the descriptor ‘socialist and progressive’, run as fast as you can. It only means they want to take it all.

  12. dudu says:

In this photo he looks teletubbier than usual. Has he been tasting too much wine?

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120724/local/man-files-data-protection-complaint-over-muscat-e-mail.429981

Data protection complaint over Muscat e-mail
A formal complaint has been made to the Data Protection Commissioner by a man who received an unsolicited propaganda e-mail from Opposition leader Joseph Muscat.
In a letter sent through his lawyers, Alfred Mangion wrote that the basis of the complaint was the fact that he had never communicated by email with either Dr Muscat or any official of the PL and never gave his consent for them to make use of his personal data for emails containing a political message.
“It therefore follows that the acquiring of my client’s personal e-mail address (as well as the IP address and internet browsing information) are in breach of the Data Protection Act since my client never consented to the PL acquiring and making use of his personal data,” Mr Mangion’s lawyer said.
“Also, a clarification is sought as to whether Dr Joseph Muscat and / or the Partit Laburista obtained my client’s private email address legitimately or otherwise.

This man was happy to betray his own leader and cheat his party from a good chance of winning the last election. He now expects us to believe that he would have our best interests at heart were he to lead our country for the next 5 years.

Once a snitch, always a snitch.

  15. David says:

Probably the Hon Muscat is drinking Moscato d’Asti now.

  16. J Abela says:

You’re making him sound as if he’s smart and cunning.

    • edward clemmer says:

My guess is that it is (was) a combination of self-pride and stupidity. If it’s cunning and ambition (I still am skeptical of smart), then all four traits may co-exist in our can’t-wait-to-be and almost Prime Minister.

  17. Charles Cassar says:

Has any evidence been presented to back up these claims?

  18. Lilla says:

    Bil-Malti jissejjaħ ġakbin.
