  1. Alfred Bugeja says:

Read recently that Chris Moyles is leaving The Morning Show after the longest stint ever by a BBC presenter on that programme.

Is it a coincidence, or could it be that he is being given the boot after insulting the great Maltese nation?

[Daphne – You CANNOT be serious.]

    • Alfred Bugeja says:

I was serious about Chris Moyles leaving the show. Sadly, it’s true.

[Daphne – That’s not the bit I meant.]

      • Alfred Bugeja says:

Of course I wasn’t! I thought it was clear in my using the term “great Maltese nation.”

  2. Sowerberry says:

    Roll on the silly season.

Must have been Tuesday about 20.45 on Super One (where else) that I stumbled on “Flippers” with presenter P J Xerxen, two “veline” (one of whom nearly did a neat backstep straight into the pool, and two couples (presumably participants) who had to play stupid games in that pool.

  3. Vanni says:

Why is it that Maltese speaking English can’t seem to lose that awful accent?

    • Joe says:

Veru jitkellem ikrah, imma trid tqis li hu Malti. Mela xi tghid meta tisma’ l-Inglizi li jigu hawn.

Kollha Queen’s English jitkelmu. Trid taghmel effort biex tifhem xi jkunu qed jghidu.

  4. AJS says:

This must be set up. I thought I heard: “Curly, Wurly, Mac Flurry [or Flarey, cannot make it out] and Toby Lerone” … brilliant.

  5. Vincent says:

Believe it or not, this was played on Super 1 radio.

  6. NGT says:

As long as the ‘th’ and ‘ae’ are not pronounced properly, they can’t be called tal-pepe though – that’s important, eh?

  7. Stanley J A Clews says:

Moyles and some other UK Radio and TV presenters, before criticising others, should do something about being able to speak understandable ENGLISH themselves.

  8. Andre says:

This is hilarious. What radio station was this on?

  9. George Cross says:

Xi dwejjaq – it’s just downright bloody embarrassing.

  10. pirandello says:

    Give up Ms CG,

    there’s no hope for us.

But as they say……hope springs eternal,

    Regards.

  11. Gahan says:

I would like to hear this Chris Moyles speak another language (if he knows another language, that is).

Reading SMSes is hard especially when the sender writes in short and sometimes clicks the wrong letters.

It sounds more like Calypso Radio.

  12. Labour pains says:

Chris Moyles is being light hearted. 2 The accent is utterly terrible.

Let’s be honest: if you were English, or lived in England for a very long time like myself, you WILL find it funny. I think it is perfectly right for Moyles to take the piss.

  13. Not Tonight says:

People, stop making excuses. English is one of our official languages. It gives us an edge over other nations in the labour market.

Is it that much of a stretch of intellect to get a reasonable command of the language so as to be at least intelligible. And if it is important for each one of us, it’s doubly important to people in the media.

The level of the spoken language is abysmal in most schools and it doesn’t get any better later on.

This clip is simultaneously hilarious and very sad.

  14. Toby Larone says:

Guys.. this is the Toby Larone feature on his show. It has nothing to do with attacking Malta or the Maltese.

The feature has been running all week. Chris gets his listeners to email other stations worldwide to try and get the DJ to say silly names like Toby Larone etc without realizing.

This happened to be one of his favorites.

The DJ was never mentioned, nor the actual station he works for. “Radio Malta” was said as a generic term. Sure he makes fun of the accent, but have you ever listened to his show?

He is a shock jock and that’s why he has 8 million listeners.

There are plenty of youtube videos on this not just the Maltese one if you have a look.

It’s a bit of harmless fun and many DJs have fallen for a funny prank.
