Austin Gatt released this statement earlier this evening

Published: October 4, 2012 at 11:31pm

“So as to quell unnecessary speculation, I want to clarify that I shall continue serving as Minister in the present Government as long as I enjoy the trust and confidence of the Prime Minister.

Dr. Debono’s continuous attacks on the Prime Minister and fellow Nationalist MPs are only a fickle attempt to compensate for an ambition he did not achieve. At the same time, however, they strengthen my will to serve and they deepen my loyalty towards the PN.

Dr. Debono has no understanding of loyalty and will therefore find it difficult to understand my stance.

I will immediately resign if the Prime Minister or PN ask me to, but I will not do so when Dr. Debono deems fit.

We have been through far tougher times than those which Dr. Debono is now seeking to create and we will still be there after Dr. Debono’s tantrums have become a thing of the past – whether he will is exceedingly doubtful.”

——-

Ask me again why I actually prefer him to any number of soft-soaping, double-talking fence-sitters.

Sometimes, Austin Gatt rocks.

Imagine giving in to that sort of parliamentary terrorism.

    “Tantrums”.

    Masterpiece

  2. Albert Farrugia says:

…didn’t Dr Gonzi, way back in January, during a public speech, turn to Dr Gatt and told him that the time will soon come when his talents will be required to help the PN get re-elected, by quitting his ministry and devoting all his time towards the Party? Isn’t it plainly obvious that this will happen before the budget?

[Daphne – Aqtaghli l-kurzita: why do you start your sentences with three dots and no capital letter?]

  3. Ghoxrin Punt says:

So refreshing to see a man with the balls to say it how it is

    • anna caruana says:

It does take balls to stay on I agree with you.

Maybe Mr Balls can give us an explanation on why arriva didn t show up this morning from quarter to eight to 9.30 in M Skala.. Calls to Arriva were futile . They had no explanation but apologised for the delay.
One of the passengers finally gave up and went to get her car and gave the other frustrated passengers a lift.

[Daphne – You should put that question to the bus company not the transport minister. Il-vera ghandek mentalita tal-passat mmuffat tal-Labour, Mrs Caruana. Issa vvota ghal Benito Muscat and he’ll make the buses run on time, tafux.]

      • anna caruana says:

Here we go again, hands off Austin or Daphne will bring out her claws.
        FYI
Ms Caruana is not a mintoffjana.

Hope you enjoyed the Mint today

[Daphne – No, you’re just the cheapskate version: a plain old Laburista. ‘Hands off Austin or Daphne will bring out her claws’. He can more than look after himself and I can’t remember the last time I wrote anything in his regard. Also, I don’t have claws. People who work in gardens and write a thousand words per 45 minutes have to keep them short.]

      • Ken il malti says:

        Benito Muscat.

        I love it.

      • Daphne: Imma kien Austin Gatt li wieghed lill-poplu Malti li l-BUZULLOTTI SE JISPICCAW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Din bhal li storja ta’ Smart City meta Austin Gatt kien iddikjara dawk il- 5,600 impjieg fi Smart City, u li 2,000 minnhom suppost diga jkunu nholqu FI SMART CITY sal-ahhar ta’ din is-sena !

      • Daphne: Possibbli int tant istruwita tant li m’ghandekx ideja min kien imur jadura lill- Benito Mussolini ??? Ma tafx il-konnessjoni dwar Benito mussolini u l-PN ????? Ma tafx li delegazzjoni tal-PN kienet prezenti fi Piazza gewwa Ruma , minghalija Piazza Venezia, biex tisma diskors ta’ Benito Mussolini, u kienet bil-bandiera tal PN ???

Ma tafx minn fejn giebu l-kulur ISWED li hemm fil-bandiera tal-PN ?????

      • Jozef says:

Tivvintax Sur Privitera, il-PN kien diga’ ghamilha cara li ma’ kienx komplici mal-politika espansjonista ta’ Mussolini. Il-membri tal-kleru li kienu fil-partit kellhom direttiva mill-vatikan biex ma jhallux infiltrazzjoni faxxista fil-partit.

Il-faxxisti skwadristi li kien hawn kienu suldati u fizzjali li kienu jsegwu lil Mosley.

Il-bandiera tal-partit kienet tezisti minn qabel twieled Mussolini.

  4. Grezz says:

Hear, hear, Austin Gatt! (And Daphne, too.)

  5. edgar says:

Austin is the one and only. He was behind the Gakketta Blu and was not afraid, together with a large group, of the Labour Party at its worst. So imagine being afraid of this cock-loving Franco.

  6. Allo Allo says:

A very witty reply from Austin.

  7. Matt says:

The more I observe Austin Gatt the more I like him. He is a competent man and Labour fears him.

Now, I would like to tell the Prime Minister that I have a solution to neutralize Franco’s hatred towards Austin Gatt-

Take the case directly to the people. The PM should go on national television, similar to what US presidents do and carefully articulate the reasons of why the PN will not schedule or entertain any parliamentary motions based on hatred.against any PN MPs. in this legislature.

  8. Georges Bonello DuPuis says:

What a perfect reply by Austin. Well done and well said.

[Daphne – Your father would have replied in the same spirit.]

  9. the chemist says:

Hu go fik, Franco. U prosit, Dr Gatt.

  10. Allamana says:

Austin, as usual, is calling a spade a spade

    Way to go man!

  11. Jozef says:

I think Labour should clarify whether Joseph’s particular fancy for Parkwell has anything to do with the motion to repeal a public tender.

Joseph made a couple of visits Parkwell HQ, an impromptu visit to his Hamrun carpark disappointing Luciano in the process, and seems to approve of Parkwell’s active involvement for the proposal of ‘rehabilitation of public spaces’.

Anyone noticed how Labour seems to think parking and traffic management seems to be a national emergency?
And why public transport should be disallowed?

    Pathetic really.

  12. Busufu says:

    Viva Austin! Abbasso l-quqquququ!

  13. Anthony says:

JPO? Do you consider yourself a man of principles or some new version of a peacemaker?

You of all people have the nerve to ask Austin to resign in appeasement to Franco. Just like that.

Simply to appease a spoilt brat, purely to keep happy someone whose sole intention and vocation in life seems to be to try, just like you, to sabotage and undermine the government which you were elected to support.

  14. jaqq says:

Gatt is right. JPO and Debono should resign their posts as parliamentary assistants first. JPO should resign his MCST chairmanship to be credible.

But they like the money and the status.
