The Evil Twins’ older brother is going to keep us in suspahnse

Malta Today (obviously) has run a top story telling us that “EU Commissioner John Dalli does not exclude the possibility of re-contesting the general election on the Nationalist Party ticket.”

You know, because it’s his choice, like it was Franco Debono’s and Jeffrey Pullicino’s and Jesmond Mugliett’s.

Malta Today carries on:

Dalli, who contested the PN leadership race in 2004, did not deny that he will be contesting elections but said that he will keep his cards close to his chest.

In his telegraphic reply, the former finance and foreign affairs minister said: “I will hold it in pectore for the time being.”

Asked whether he has been approached by the Nationalist Party to contest the looming election, Dali said: “I will wait and see how things develop.”

You know, because what the Nationalist Party really needs to recoup some of those thousands of lost votes is the prospect of Johnny Dalli back in parliament and agitating to become a cabinet minister again, in a rerun of the Franco/Jeffrey/Jesmond cabaret.

So, are we correct to say that Mugliett is more Labour than the PL?

He just did his bit and we can see the clique’s noose closing in on the government: JPO, Mugliett, Debono and Dalli. It’s a war on many fronts.

      • Maryanne: You should add Daphne to the list. The PL’s greatest assets are not the three four people you mention, although they are helping, but Lawrence Gonzi, Daphne and Lou Bondi !

    • Jozef says:

Mugliett never fails to confirm himself as one slimey individual.

  1. Indri says:

He does not deserve to be accepted as a candidate. All the big mouths might have a chance in the PN loses and a new leader will take over and act as Joseph Muscat. The PN needs new blood not old faces who burn inside cos they see the prime minister marching on.

To me, this means that the answer to MaltaToday’s question is that he was not approached by the Nationalist Party to contest with them.

    Hekk tajjeb!

U issa, ghax qed ixomm min jaf x’inhu jxomm, irid jigi lura ha jwettaq certi pjanijiet.

Ah Dalli: mela hsibtna twelidna lbierah jew?

  4. maryanne says:

    In your dreams, John Dalli.

Aren’t you going to continue appearing on Super One after the elections?

  5. La Redoute says:

He could have taken over from Joe Grima on Inkontri. They’re about the same size.

  6. Lestrade says:

    Still flogging Sargas, is he?

  7. whitewarrior says:

Infakkar ghalkemm jaf lis-sur Dalli li fejn mar jaghmel hsara lil partit, huma l-iistess nies, li kienu jghidulu Johnny Cash u HuBastjan, u jghidu li ghamel l-akbar hofra, li biegh u ha kommixin min fuq l-HSBC, li dawwar l-ilma f”whiskey.

Issa jmur fuq il-One TV taghhom, bhala kummissarju tal-EU li jaqla eluf minn fuq dahar in-nies u jaghmlilna l-hsara. Tal-misthija.

  8. Gorg Borg says:

He won’t and the party won’t be asking him to run for the elections. He has done so much harm. He can go ahead and contest the party leadership all he wants, but he’s not going to get many votes.

  9. Antoine Vella says:

John Dalli is expecting the PN to lose the coming election and Gonzi to resign so he’ll have another chance of becoming PN leader.

However, if he’s not an MP, Dalli won’t be able to take up his post as Leader of the Opposition – I doubt he would find a Joseph Cuschieri to accommodate him – so he needs to stand for the parliamentary elections.

He’s also hoping, of course, to attract a large number of votes which would assert his supposed popularity and strengthen his position in an eventual leadership contest.

All this wait-and-see coyness is just tactical posturing.

  10. rjc says:

I regret having wasted my vote on John Dalli in the general election. He surely won’t get it again from me or from any member of my family if he presents himself again.

  11. George says:

No, no and a big NO Dalli’s candidacy shouldn’t be accepted.

Through his behaviour vis a vis the PN in the last four and a half years he inflicted great harm to the party’s image and by so doing he has thrown away his past credentials required for a candidacy post.

In my opinion he is not any more trustworthy and therefore his request if submitted should be given an outright rejection even if it could cost an electoral defeat. It’s better to have a party of gentlemen in opposition than a party with the likes of Debono, Pullicino Orlando, Mugliett and Dalli in government.

  12. mandango70 says:

Perhaps he gets to lead the party, you never know. In that case, it wouldn’t be him who plays main actor in the rerun of Franco/Jeffrey/Jesmond cabaret.

By the way, if there were to really happen, how would you position yourself?

[Daphne – How will he get to lead the party – by staging a coup with machine-guns? Do you honestly imagine that the same people who resolutely did not vote for him in the 2004 leadership race are going to vote for him now, when he has behaved so shockingly badly? And when he has failed to dissociate himself from his drug-dealing, smuggler, jailbird brother, but gives him credence instead? Jaqaw insejt li l-partit tieghek kellu isem ghal Johnny Dalli: HuBastjan?]

  13. Mychoice Joe Grima says:

Franco, Jeffrey u Johnny …triplets li gew bl-IVF.

  14. Malcolm Vella says:

This is a man with cheek.

Just imagine being given a job doing fuck all for 5 years earning a quarter of a million plus perks, remaining disgruntled, backstabbing everyone in the process and having the brass neck to put himself out for election with that same party he’s been working against for the past five years.

  15. Matt says:

John Dalli should emulate Louis Galea’s dignity. He should stay focused on his work as a EU commissioner.

Throwing jabs and fomenting disunity within the PN on One TV is not dignified. The PN is bigger than John.

Dalli, has truly become a liability for the PN similar to Joe Grima for MLP. A steoeoisomer of Joe Grima.

  16. Il-Hajbu says:

Johorgu JPO, Mugliett, Debono u forsi xi haddiehor li issa qieghed izomm halqu maghluq, u jidhol JOHNNY CASH. Minn got-tagen ghal gon-nar.

U hallina, Johnny! Kompli impala hemm u lilna hallina bi kwietna.

  18. John Dalli: Xebbah lil GonziPN ma ” APARTHEID” .

  19. edgar says:

I declare that I shall not vote for him and also declare that I shall make it a point to persuade my friends to do likewise.

  20. H.P. Baxxter says:

I love this Maltese expression: “I was approached by PN/MLP to contest the election”. Spoken with that warm Smugness of the Righteous and a frisson of erotic pleasure.

I can reveal that I was also approached to contest the election. But I refused, because I knew I’d just make a fool of myself.

  21. elephant says:

But honestly, do you think that the PN is so hopeless as to ask people like John Dalli to stand for the party in the next elections? – come off it. What the Party needs, NOW is a good, new, Secretary General.
