God, how smug and self-satisfied. So much for the underdog.

Referendum tilfu imma.
1812-2012? How come? He says he is only 38 years old, not a bi-centinarian.
Yes, it’s all about him. Just like Franco Debono, they’ll go down and take everyone down with them.
I had a bit of a think about his underdog statements after watching Xarabank last Friday.
When Italy play football against Malta, they don’t call themselves underdogs unless they want to look like complete fools. Malta, on the other hand, call themselves underdogs because they know they have several deficiencies.
Using the same analogy, Joseph Muscat must know that he has serious deficiencies. Otherwise, he wouldn’t call his party the underdog. So what could the deficiencies be?
He has the polls on his side.
He has been helped by the strife within the Nationalist Party over the past years.
He has been helped by the fact that the Nationalist Party has been governing for quite a while.
He has been helped by certain mishandled issues.
He has the aura of being fresh and untested (for those who don’t look into his past).
What more could he ask for?
Then it hit me.
He just doesn’t believe in his team. At all. Joseph Muscat must have been tearing his hair out while watching his completely inept and unprepared speakers (Konrad Mizzi, Marlene Pullicino or whatever her name is these days and Leo Brincat) get trounced by their Nationalist counterparts. If he could, he’ll probably do an Anglu Farrugia with the lot and chop off their heads. But there are only so many salvaging operations he can do and half decent guys like Louis Grech are very hard to come by within the Labour ranks.
He probably went green in the face when the televoting results came up with about 84% of voters voting against the proposal. Sure, it’s not a scientific poll but the difference was enough to give a very clear idea of who was the most credible.
Joseph Muscat wants us to vote for the people he himself doesn’t believe in. No wonder he sees his party as an underdog.
