Oh, the squalid hypocrisy

For my sins, I’ve had Super One TV on constantly since Bondi+ ended on TVM2. The contrast between word and deed is just unbelievable.

There was Muscat on Bondi+ talking about the politics of unity and being positive. There he was on their campaign video, banging on off a teleprompter about how people are sick of the politics of red and blue, how divisive politics have split towns, villages and families (yawn) and how Malta is taghna lkoll.

And meanwhile, on Super One TV it’s wall-to-wall bitching, bitterness, politics tal-firda, twisting other people’s words to mean something entirely different, and total nastiness.

The only thing missing is Big Bird’s emu friend, Charlon Gouder, who seems to have been locked in the Skeleton Cupboard to be replaced by the more visually appealing Ramona Attard (on the good days when she’s had a bath, washed her hair and put her make-up on).

Right now it’s half past midnight and the Fearless leader is once more on the Super One screen, talking about il-politika tat-tribu and how wrong it is. He’s just mentioned the word ‘Nationalists’ and everybody’s booing, like at a pantomime.

And I’ve just heard that Stepford wife of a newscaster they had on tonight (the one who stares fixedly and expressionless at the camera) announce that ‘Gonzi’ released a statement today saying he is “disappointed that the two men involved in the oil scandal were charged in court today”.

The politics of positivity and togetherness, eh? The politics of not twisting the truth and lying about people so relentlessly that they give up suing you for libel?

That’s not what the prime minister said in his statement.

He said that he is disappointed to be so badly let down – as the country as a whole has been let down – by individuals placed in a position of trust, who end up prosecuted.

Clearly not the same thing at all.

The best bit is when they first tell us what someone said, and then they release a soundbite which contradicts their reporting.
    Super Onebelieveable.

Yesterday on Bondi+, the subject of tax evasion by Aikon Ltd was discussed and Lou told Muscat that it would have been illegal for Minister Tonio Fenech to go through the report.

Muscat retorted that at some point the Minister had opened that report since now he knows it’s Aikon.

Lou said he will have to ask the Minister about it. Their answer is on yesterday’s Tvam at 1:46. There is all the explanation Muscat and Lou need. Tonio Fenech was well prepared when Chris Cardona started these insinuations.

    • La Redoute says:

The more significant part of that exchange is that Muscat didn’t know it’s illegal for a minister to rifle through a secret service report rather than passing it on to the tax compliance unit.

That’s exactly what i thought when Lou had to explain to him that yes, the minister in this case, is just a messenger.

U l-iccassat Muscat gie ccassat iktar minn qabel ghax ma riedx jemmen li l-Ministru ma jistax ihares lejn ir-rapport.

Now we know why Joseph could not do to Toni what he did to Anglu.

There was a time when I could watch Super One Tv for spurious and odd periods of time.

Nowadays, I just cannot bear to watch anything going on there and you, Daphne, have my admiration for sticking out watching that nest of vipers.
