You can get the Constitution on the internet, Frankie Tabone

Franco Debono, the man would reconstitute our Constitution, has proposed on Facebook – an entirely appropriate forum for the Law Commissioner and chief of constitutional review – that a copy of the Constitution be dispatched forthwith to every household in Malta, even those occupied by people who can’t read or understand it.

Isn’t this a pointless exercise?

Everybody who is likely to give a damn is linked up to the internet, and has access to the Constitution already. For the chief of constitutional review’s benefit (as he is clearly a bit of a Luddite in these matters), the link is below.

      Admin,
that link is stale – you can only download the old Constitution from there. What Franco wants dispatched to every home is the Reconstituted Constipation of the Second Republic.

  1. H.P. Baxxter says:

    I.M.B.E.C.I.L.E

    in a badly-fitting suit

  2. vanni says:

Like a cur peeing on a lamppost, Frankie wants to leave his mark as well.

  3. nev says:

For 30 pieces of silver you sold your soul. Now do the decent thing and hang yourself, Franco (metaphorically speaking, of course, ma jmurx tahseb li dan huwa xi attakk fahxi).

  4. Baggio says:

The village idiot is the counterpart to The Right Honourable Lord Justice (Sir David) Lloyd Jones in the UK:

U se jqassmilna kopja tal-kostituzzjoni. Kemm hu tajjeb il-Baggio.

  5. canon says:

It is all right for Franco Debono to pull somebody’s leg but it is not all right for him if somebody pulls HIS leg.

  6. Mark says:

    Il-marelli kemm int tan-nejk, Franco.

  7. Zammit says:

No, Baxxter – the behaviour is all due to delusions of grandeur.

Do you think he gives a shit if Joe Bloggs is up to date about the constitution? All he cares is about making himself feel more important than he really is!

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

All I care about is ending the ridiculous Naked Emperor scourge which afflicts this nation.

It is for this purpose that I hereby launch an attakk fahxi on Franco Debono.

He is a subliterate lout, a scoundrel and a disgusting, ill-mannered prole.

In any normal country he’d be raising chickens in the back of beyond. In Malta, he is raised to high office. Shame on us.

  8. canon says:

What is this fixation that the financing of the political parties be enshrined in the Constitution? Isn’t a law enough?

  9. Angus Black says:

If people couldn’t bother to read, much less understand what the NP manifesto offered, how are they supposed to read and understand the old or new Constitution?

Labour in true form will persuade the feeble minded ‘to trust Joseph’, and then they’ll see.

Pity that those Nationalists who voted Labour or not voted at all will probably be the first ones to cry foul when their liberties are curtailed and when the country recedes back to the glorious years of Socialism.

  10. Alexander Ball says:

How unfortunate for Frankie that Malta is a member of the EU.

They can do what they want with the Constitution but we all have rights as EU citizens and the Constitution can’t take them away.

    • Min Jaf says:

The ultimate aim is to take Malta out of the EU. The new power station project time frame falls foul of EU directives. EU will therefore act against Malta when the project gets under way.

Joseph Muscat will then accuse the EU of blocking the PL project to reduce electricity and water bills by 25%. Public opinion will then be fanned against interference by the EU.

China will express its readiness to help Malta and to invest in capital projects. Joseph Muscat will then ride on that wave and put exit from the EU to a referendum.

The majority of voters being gullible, as the general election results have shown, the exit decision will go though. With that will also go the the fundamental rights of the individual, as the ECJ will cease to have jurisdiction over Malta.

The Constitution of Malta will then become no more than a piece of paper.

Joseph Muscat will then have attained his mentor Mintoff’s ultimate objective: a People’s Republic, i.e a dictatorship based on the North Korean and/or Chinese model.

      • La Redoute says:

But not before 2017 so Joseph Muscat can get to play Emperor of Europe.

      • canon says:

If that is Joseph Muscat’s plan than he will be asking for trouble.

      • Min Jaf says:

Canon – the people will have spoken. The referendum decision will be democratic. The EU respects decisions taken democratically.and will respect that decision. Nothing will then stand in Joseph Muscat’s way.

When that happens, all public opposition will dissipate as, typically, individuals will start falling over themselves to ingratiate themselves with their new masters.

Malta’s exit from the EU will be assured.

The prosperous and secure Malta that has been built up over recent years will be no more.

      • Min Jaf says:

La Redoute, the repeated references to Malta’s EU Presidency are only there for distraction. Labour has never abandoned its repeatedly declared ultimate objective – a sovereign Malta that is free from any political ties with other nations, whatever the consequences.

Life President of the People’s Republic of Malta, despite the resultant lack of individual rights and freedoms, and despite the inevitable economic collapse, remains the more attractive scenario than a six-month stint as procedurally shackled ‘Emperor of Europe’.

Remember, People’s Republics are notorious for ensuring that No 1 takes good care of himself and of his attendant goons.

      • ciccio says:

The fundamental rights of the individual are not regulated by the ECJ but by the ECHR, which is not related to the EU.

      • ciccio says:

I am waiting for Joseph Muscat to appoint the Commission for the EU Presidency 2018.

I am expecting him to appoint himself from the MLP side and Simon Busuttil from the PN.

And – in line with his thinking with the Constitution Convention – he will appoint KMB as Chairman.

  11. Catherine says:

How very modern in this day and age to needlessly print off masses and masses of paper for distribution to the citizens. Reminds me of something….

  12. OMG says:

His weird behaviour is enough for the subject of a doctoral thesis.

  13. Min Jaf says:

Maltese citizens had no recourse to the European Court of Human Rights before 1988. Malta would return to the status quo ante.

Your individual rights will remain, of course, only there would be no means by which they may be protected and, where necessary, enforced.

Were you around in the 1970s and early 1980s, civil?

  14. David says:

Not everyone has access to the internet. Some do not even know that we have a constitution or know what is a constitution. Ignorance should be fought by spreading knowledge. We should learn about the constitution from the media. On Italian tv Benigni has done a programme on the Italian Constitution.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

Just like the Italians. A comedian (and a most unfunny one) doing a programme on the constitution. How utterly ridiculous.

In the UK it would have been Simon Schama.

THAT, my fellow countrymen, is the difference between Italy and Britain.
