So….more dispatches from the Malta Taghna Lkoll front, then

Published: April 27, 2013 at 1:27pm

Diehard Laburist Alfred Grixti, who was for years a Labour Party official and also a contender for the post of party secretary-general, has been made chairman of the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC).

His deputy is Pauline Miceli, also a diehard Laburista of the 1970s school with that whole ex-wife of Alfred Sant, Mrs Evarist Bartolo, nisa socjalisti crowd.

The new ETC board members include Gabi Calleja, who led the gay charge for Labour votes; GWU man James Pearsall; the multi-millionaire timeshare businessman Philip Rizzo, who was a regular fixture in Labour’s campaign circus, tugging at heart-strings because he doesn’t know who is going to look after his intellectually disabled daughter when he dies (I hate to sound rude, but it was her mother who looked after her when he left Malta with his girlfriend, and he has enough money to make adequate provision for her and also for others in the form of a foundation); former GWU secretary-general Anglu Fenech, who is long retired and now does pro bono work (admirably) with Caritas; and Malta Today columnist and company managing director Claudine Cassar, who despite having the right qualifications was clearly singled out from among others who are similarly qualified by the fact that she, too, was a regular fixture in the campaign, criticising the Nationalist Party, praising Labour, and even speaking under Labour’s tent.

So the crowning of the stooges continues, and he is enough of a snake to put in some decent persons so keep taking some of the switchers for a ride.

How will this man manage to juggle everything?

  3. sparks says:

Where on earth is John Bundy? Is he by any chance knocking at Net TV’s door?

  4. Malta Taghhom ilkoll says:

A herd of armchair critics who have done nothing but seek every opportunity to criticize the Nationalist government on the media but never offered any practical solutions.

Let’s hope that now that these people have been vested with the responsibility of forging Malta’s strategy for employment will be able to maintain the success that the corporation and government have achieved in the recent years.

  5. P Shaw says:

There is also Martin Fenech, the ex-PN candidate, who is / was a business partner with Joe Caordina (now Chairman of Gozo Channel) who administered the holding company that received the alleged oil scandal bribes.

Alalyzing, all these appointments, one wonders how cheap these people are by trashing their reputation, if they had any, and by ‘prostituting’ themselves during the campaign for a token appointment here and there.

Malta is really a small island, and it seems people do not have a life, if they were willing to stoop so low, just for a board appointment in an insignificant entity.

  6. Edgar says:

For all his arse licking, Philip Rizzo must be very disappointed with this humble reward. Pauline Miceli vice chairman and Philip a simple board member. Definitely not what he was expecting.

  7. Gahan says:

Alfred Grixti used to pose as an independent commentator on Carmen Sammut’s RTK discussion program.

He took offence when someone phoned in to point out that he was a Labour activist not just a head teacher.

One would have him attacking the government while the other speaker would have been Alfred Mallia Milanes who was not in politics.

That was subtle, Carmen! Did she get her iced bun? I lost count.

How is it that ARMS has a board of directors when Water Services hasn’t got one?

ARMS is equally owned by Water Services Corporation and EneMalta and these companies are rightfully represented on the Arms board of directors.

Perhaps this is the new way of doing things ; putting the cart before the horse.

  8. pazzo says:

I would rather say it’s a case of ‘the end justifies the means’.

  9. jaqq says:

James Pearsall is the only survivor of the previous ETC boards. A sign of Malta Taghna Lkoll from PN administrations.

  10. Min Jaf says:

Another name has been added to the paedophilia register. A significant number of persons are currently under process before the courts for paedophilia.

Does the ETC have any policy or procedure in place to properly screen and filter out such sexual deviants, particularly those that are already up before the courts, in job placement?

  11. Tania says:

Weren’t we supposed to “vote” online for appointees – when is the pilot project proposed before the elections getting underway?
