Evarist Bartolo boasts on Facebook that Gozo students will receive EUR1,050 a year. But it’s less than what they had already.
I have received this email.
Dear Ms Caruana Galizia,
I am a Gozitan student who follows your blog. First of all I would like to congratulate you for having the courage to say what we think but dare not say.
While I was browsing on Facebook I found a statement by Evarist Bartolo saying that Gozitan students will receive 1,050 euros per annum in allowance. This indicates that our grant has been reduced by 150 euros, since we should receive 1200 euros per annum.
The allowance was initiated by the previous government, by giving us 400 euros every three months. We received the first cheque in January for the months October – December, but we haven’t received the cheque for the months January – March, which was due in April.
This allowance was of great help to us students studying in Malta. I’m concerned that under the Taghna Lkoll government, we are going to lose this aid, and I’m afraid that this is a step towards the loss of our stipends.
I would appreciate it if you could make reference to this in your blog, because I don’t wish to be walked over by a selfish government.

I was going to say ‘and so it starts’, but instead I say ‘it continues, stealthily but surely’.
Thank you, switchers. Hopefully they will be wise enough to realize and come to their senses by the time we next come to the polls.
Brace yourself, man. There is more to come or, in this case NOT come.
Minister Scicluna is on record stating, during a pre-election political event, that the money to finance the everything-to-everyone promises made by PL could be found by cutting back on the education and health votes.
Now it is happening.
With reference to the above mail: the allowances being mentioned relate to scholarship for certain master’s program. Kindly clarify if what you claimed you are being given is stipend or allowance in respect to scholarship.
[Daphne – No, the allowances mentioned here by the education minister do not all relate to MA scholarships. The Gozo students allowance is for people who live in Gozo and are students at the University of Malta. Read the pic properly.]
First step, reduce stipends.
Second step, reduce courses.
Third step, introduce quotas for entry into university.
Fourth step, require references.
Fifth step, introduce a point system in the interest of creating a level playing field for the idiots.
Dear Gozitan student,
It was Evarist Bartolo to send us university students marching on Castille when he was last minister of education in 1997.
Video attached to remind all those students who voted Labour in the last election.

Good luck with your studies.
Looks like Maria l-Maws is already gnawing away at the student benefits.

Under the PN governments Gozitans benefited tremendously with generous benefits for every one and not just for University students, yet on election day, the Gozitans showed their ingratitude.
Dr. Gonzi deserved better from Gozitans. I am completely disappointed at the Gozitans.
Evarist has been anti-education since the 80s’ so I see no surprise here.
When Alfred Sant won the election in 1996, one of the first changes he made was increasing the price of the Gozo Channel ticket for those crossing to Malta for work or study.
We couldn’t wait to vote him out and we were lucky enough to do so within 18 months.
This time, the Gozitans will have to suck it up and wait the whole 60 months and suffer the consequences of seeing ‘red’.
I’m pretty sure that somebody has pointed it out already, but doesn’t this sort of misinformation sound like something worthy of the Ministry of Plenty from George Orwell’s 1984?
this scheme refers to those who wish to continue with their masters and not for undergraduate students, thus the name ‘Master it’ . So the 1050 per annum will be allocated to masters students not undergraduate.
