Where was Jason 2018?

Yesterday the Valletta 2018 Foundation launched a new series of activities/

Architect Adrian Mamo, who is also on the Malta Arts Council, chaired the launch conference, and did a good job of it as expected.

The interesting thing though, was that this was the first day Jason 2018, the new chairman, was meant to take over. But he was conspicuous by his absence.

The panel included several international speakers and representatives from UNESCO. A member of my international worldwide network of spies tells me that it was “an amazing undertaking which was relatively well attended” and that “other members of the foundation were around working on the logistics and meeting and greeting people, but Jason wasn’t there at all”.

Maybe he was out of his depth. I mean, what is his usual metier? Parties with Zurrieq mayor Ignatius Farrugia, Mary Spiteri and that lout who Gayle Kimberley said in court dragged her round the office by the hair and threatened to slash her brakes, socialising with ex Lorry Sant fixer Ronnie Pellegrini and Albertown escapee Charlon Gouder, and discussing the Eurovision Song Contest as though it’s war with Iran.

I can’t imagine him making small-talk with anyone from UNESCO.

Adrian Mamo used to be on the Arts Council.

    [Daphne – He still is.]

Architect Adrian Mamo comes from the Maltese translation’ Perit.’ Unless its something specific about the architect life Maltese born architect XX or Prize winning architect, the profession does not need to be stated.

[Daphne – You are quite wrong, I’m afraid. ‘Architect Adrian Mamo’ is used here in the same context as, for example, ‘Historian David Starkey’ or ‘Bar-tender John Brown’. It is used for the same reason that newspaper pieces in which I feature sometimes have me down as ‘columnist Daphne Caruana Galizia’. It is a descriptor which puts the person in context. I know Adrian Mamo is an architect, and so do you. Others do not, and in this particular context – a conference about Valletta 2018 – his professional background is indeed crucial, for much the same reason that the chairman’s is, hence the controversy.]
