Labour’s up and coming MP, Silvio Schembri – is there something we should be told?

Published: May 29, 2013 at 7:25pm

Silvio Schembri

Silvio Schembri was elected to parliament on the Labour ticket, for the first time last March. Basically, he unseated his uncle, Charlie Mangion.

Schembri promoted himself on the hunting and trapping ticket. He is 27, but has been given a senior position as chair of the House Committee for Economic and Financial Affairs. Basically, this means that the Governor of the Central Bank will have to report to him on progress. The house committee’s brief is to scrutinise the economic situation and reports published by European and Maltese institutions.

Schembri is also the man the government is sending out to speak about financial matters. He was on TVHemm a couple of evenings ago with the Opposition’s Kristy Debono, defending the government’s actions on the economy.

Meanwhile, he’s been trawling for ‘links’ on an internet ‘friendship’ site, using a suggestive profile picture which features him standing half naked – at least, I assume he might be wearing trunks or underpants – outdoors.

Call me stupid but I’m not getting it…

  2. canon says:

Some weeks ago you published a photo of Joseph Muscat at Silvio Schembri’s wedding. In that photo Joseph Muscat gave peculiar attention to Silvio.

  3. Paul Bonnici says:

I am sure Cyrus Engerer will love this photo.

  4. Rita Camilleri says:

Why do I get depressed when I read these things ?

  5. Stephen Borg Fiteni says:

    Who is that, his sister?

    • observer says:

No. She’s the one with fairly abundant ‘ghaqal’ in her right one, ‘lealta’ oozing out of the other, and ‘energija’ (i.e. what you require by the tons) for taking care of the ‘centre’.

    • TinaB says:

To me it looks like a man – to be honest with you I thought that’s him (Silvio Schembri) wearing make-up and a wig.

    • My name is Charlie says:

Her name is Grace Agius, and yes, she’s probably some kind of sister or aunt.

How brave and how exciting. He sounds like an excitable teenager going away for the first time without his parents.

  8. Alexander Ball says:

Well at least they can’t fuck up the lira seeing as how we’re in the eurozone.

I haven’t seen much change since they got in. Internet still works. Petrol at the pumps. No massive price rises.

What do you think will be the most obvious sign I’ll see that Labour are in charge?

    • Josette says:

You see idiotic decisions like putting the eternal flame on part time duty to save money… and that’s just the beginning.

Slowly but surely they’ve already started to drive the economy to the ground. It’s really depressing. They just can’t seem to change.

Is that guy wearing make up?

    • bob-a-job says:

They won’t be trying to destabilise the government at every turn.

    • anthony says:

      Elementary my dear Ball.

Reduced uptake of Malta Government Stock.

We still have no information on the outcome of the issue of ten days ago. The dead silence is very, very worrying. Ominous really.

  9. Sufa says:

Sadly, many are those who think that they can separate their “private” life from their public persona; likewise those who think that they can separate their private life from their internet “persona”.

Now I understand why LGBT was high on the PL’s agenda.

Has that man been waxed thoroughly by Natius Farrugia at Natius Ola in Zurrieq?

Or was he made naturally without hair?

  12. A Montebello says:

I would pay good money to watch a vox pop where the buxom chick in red is asked “what is an economist?”

  13. herbie says:

Heard part of supposed discussion on the radio whilst driving.

Didn’t know who the speakers were but him coming out to be such an arrogant twerp I made sure to watch the repeat to see who it was.

  14. Twanny says:

Daphne, you shouldn’t have put the statement “The house committee’s brief” next to that image – might bring awful mental pictures!
