Somebody was in a bit of a hurry in the summer heat

At around 11am today, this lorry driver thought it a good idea to save time by executing a U-turn right over the centre-strip in the middle of a busy road – at the traffic light junction just beyond Pender Gardens, which takes you onto the Regional Road past Swieqi.

It-triq taghna lkoll?
“Don’t you know who I am?”
The stupid ones would be the ones who gave way for him to pass and continue what he was doing.
I would not have given way, not even if he tried to force his way through.
“I would not have given way, not even if he tried to force his way through”
What do you drive then Chris? an M1 Abrams?
@Pat
I wish… Hmm actually maybe not.
It’s just I find these people so irritating. Especially the ones that stop in the middle of the road blocking traffic so that they buy the bread or something stupid like that.
We were in the area this morning at around noon. I can assure you that many cars, vans and trucks were doing the same thing. Unfortunately the local wardens created more chaos rather than controlling the traffic.
At one point one of them started directing traffic through a one-way road towards Paceville whilst cars were coming through from the normal side.
More chaos ensued and drivers started shouting at each other and the only person to blame was the warden.
One more thing – the wardens looked really, really shabby in that uniform. Some of them had long hair and stubble, which made things worse.
Ghax Malta taghna lkoll. I despair.
“Imbilli…? Mhux xorta…? Ghamilt xi haga hazina…?”
… same gene pool.
I am sure he thought that the police commissioner shops at Lidl on Thursdays and not Tuesdays… so he pulled this ‘only in Malta’ stunt thinking that the commissioner was doing the shopping and he wouldn’t be caught.

what do you think about the PN MEP candidates ?
I hope the authorities will trace this king of the road and fine him or her accordingly.
I have always said that traffic chaos here is caused by drivers who are incompetent, distracted, rude (as in this case) or a mixture of the three.
It is very noticeable that since Labour took power many believe that rules are no longer valid.
I don’t agree with you, driving standards have nothing to do with who’s in government, we have the worse driving standards in Europe, and that’s a fact.
It has nothing to do with the government. I have been driving for donkeys years and it has always been the same. I suspect it has to do with our Mediterranean culture.
I have always tried to adopt the rule of “Mhux kif issuq int, imma kif isuq haddiehor”. It seems to have worked so far, thank God.
The situation was hopeless at about 9:30 at that junction this morning as I was going through there. And, yes, I also believe that it was the wardens that made the situation worse.
Wardens have to sit for a test and those who pass are failed – get the gist?
Drive on the Italian roads, take the overtaking lane, speed up to the maximum speed your car can achieve, keep overtaking and your mind is at rest that no one is going to change lanes abruptly without indicating and checking mirrors and blind-spots.
Try that on the St. Paul’s Bay bypass at the national speed limit of 80km per hour, and see how many keep driving on the overtaking lane at speeds less the 50 kms.
And do you lot really believe that somebody at the warden firm will bother to call this idiot in, demand an explanation and, why not, maybe advise her how to handle such a situation in the future?
Issa l-Gvern taghna naghmlu li nridu – seems to be a recurrent theme of late.
I bet you the guy must have a ‘qaddis’ to break the law so blatantly.
Did the poor guy have a panic attack?

Driving standards are intrinsically connected with who’s in government. Look at the way we drive and look who we elected to govern us.
You mean that we drove better under the previous administration?
“Why is everyone angry? That’s what it said on the roadmap.”
Gauci Cunningham must have realised Paola Mosque is the other way.

Molto minimal, although he does risk those shelves toppling over.
Driving on this rock is really crazy no discipline at all
Driving standards here in Malta are abysmal.
This morning, a driver stopped to ask me something. In the meantime a lady driver started hooting – as we were obstructing – whilst at the same time talking on the mobile phone. She was in a hurry.
And how many children under twelve years of age sitting in the front seat or other toddlers not buckled in a child’s seat do you come across, while their parents drive nonchalantly along.
