Cuschieri should have stuck to waiting tables at (the late) Joe Pace’s Magic Kiosk

The cabbage who gave up his seat in the Maltese parliament (a seat he got through the votes of other assorted human root vegetables) so that Joseph Muscat could become Opposition leader, and who was rewarded by being catapulted into the European Parliament on the Labour ticket, has embarrassed himself and his party bosses once more.

He has demand to know what, if anything, the European Commission is doing to assist Malta materially in the issue of immigration from Africa.

Commissioner Malmstrom responded, rather civilly given the treatment she has received at our hands, that Malta has received material assistance to the tune of €84.9 million since 2007, in funds specifically for this purpose and no other.

She also said that Malta is the “focus of the European Commission’s efforts in helping member states to deal with migration pressures” and that the Commission “recognises that Malta receives the largest number of asylum applicants as a percentage of the population of any member state within the EU”.

Cuschieri also had it explained to him that under the ‘SOLID’ fund, Malta can request immediate additional financial help to deal with emergencies, and that other member states have been asked to help in the settlement of those who are granted asylum status, with 690 having been resettled in this manner since 2005.

What idiots. They are an embarressment to the country.

  2. Lolita says:

If Joey had an iota of of decency left in him, these antics and so many others by his ridiculous appointees would embarrass him, but unfortunately he is beyond even that.

  3. Mark says:

Didn’t excel at that either, his best achievement was to garner more votes than Marlene Tat-Toyshop.

When I was in transit through Frankfurt airport during the crisis in Libya, Malta and Lawrence Gonzi were praised sky-high when some airport staff saw my Maltese passport. It made me proud to be Maltese.

I’m not sure what would happen today.

I think this should have been the other way round. MEP 456 should have given Mrs. Malstrom an explanation of what his government was doing about immigration. So far we have heard about the coffee, ‘stamping of the feet,’ ‘standing up to be counted,’ the navy, the PM’s British sense of humour, but not much more.

It seems that the EU is already doing much more than Joey’s government.

Joseph Cuschieri should be thinking what the government is doing overall because since Labour’s electoral victory, I have not read or heard of any decent headline with regards to investments.

Sorry I forgot the power station. Or shall we put down this as throwaway money since we do not need it? After all we have the gas pipeline in hand.

If an average of only 86 refugees per annum were actually granted asylum out of the thousands marooned annually on this tiny overpopulated island that is an indication of the great deficit between the cross being placed on the shoulders of us Maltese by the NIMBY policies of the bigger EU members. This is not a problem that can be solved by money grants only. That is only a placebo.

      Well said.

We’ve been over this. There is an entire world of difference between densely populated and over populated.

One is of no consequence whatsoever, the other is catastrophic.

Malta is densely populated. If you want an argument against immigration, choose another point, but stop beating that old horse to death.

Who remembers when Silvio Parnis asked when the restoration of the Valletta Bastions was going to take place?

This when the work was already 50% completed (after at least a couple of years of highly visible scaffolding being in place) and the minister (Pullicino?) in reply, asked him when was the last time he entered Valletta…

Since we’re talking of cabbages, I am still dumbfounded how PN let the action/in action of some of its exponents drag it down. Disgraceful and humiliating.

  11. kev says:

How sweet. Pity the SOLID funds are counted with the rest of incoming EU funds, which are then offset by the half billion euros we’ll be contributing to the EU’s multi-annual budget as from next year (let alone the hundreds of millions we will have to borrow to pour into the eurozone bailout fund).

Given the level of play, by the time we are net contributors we’d still be talking about EU funding as if it were our lifeblood.
