So…do Silvio Scerri and Manuel Mallia keep Peter Paul Zammit on a leash, feed him pellets and take him to the Mainguard fountain for refreshments?

The Police Minister is mobbed by women trying to get a hot date with Charles Iz-Zambi

Times of Malta reported yesterday:

The mother of the man who was wrongly arraigned by the police, this morning made a sworn statement that her son was contacted by Charles Attard (Iz-Zambi) who asked him to speak to someone at the Home Affairs Ministry, the shadow minister for home affairs, Jason Azzopardi said today.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Dr Azzopardi said this backed comments he had made at a press conference last week that the Chief of Staff at the ministry, Silvio Serri, has used Mr Attard, a convicted criminal, as a go-between to speak to Darryl Luke Borg before he was interviewed by the Police Board which is investigating how he was wrongly arraigned.

The ministry had claimed that it was Borg who contacted the ministry and he had taken Charles Attard along with him for a meeting.

The Police Commissioner on Wednesday backed the ministry’s version, saying phone logs proved it was Borg who contacted the ministry.

Charles Attard served time for the attempted murder of Richard Cachia Caruana.

I would add that not only did Charles Attard get 14 years in prison for the stabbing, but that – key point here, which nobody seems to want to bring up – Manuel Mallia was defence counsel to the man put on trial for commissioning that stabbing in the first place.

And there’s more in that Times of Malta report:

IZ-ZAMBI ALSO PHONED TO CONFIRM BORG’S ATTENDANCE AT POLICE BOARD MEETING

In the evening of the meeting, Mr Attard contacted her to confirm her presence at the Police Board meeting and that of her son.

She initially went alone before the Police Board as her son was ill, but Mr Scerri told her he had to be there. The board waited for him.

One of the first questions which the board asked her was whether she was contacted by anybody from the police.

Dr Azzopardi said political responsibility had to be shouldered by all those who covered Scerri’s actions, including the Home Affairs minister, the Police Commissioner and the Prime Minister.

This government, he said, had already lost all the moral high ground.

“Mr Scerri’s position is no longer tenable,” Dr Azzopradi said.

And now we have the Police Commissioner, rushing to back up the Police Minister and his aide with foolish and abusive talk of unspecified phone logs, when he shouldn’t even be discussing the matter in the media at all, let alone to ‘prove his minister right’.

By the time this lot are done with Malta, we’ll be looking at Palermo with envy.

It’s Malta Labour Party time. Never expected it to be any different. Another four and a half years of this?

    Good for you Jason.

Malta is being governed by people, some of whom have no sense of elementary shame and dignity that would justify the people’s respect. That is true even if one concedes that our fickle electorate deserves the government it voted for in a moment of collective mental aberration soon regretted.

    • Hufflepuff says:

Fickle electorate – cannot agree more on that. Now it’s just odds on if it will be 5,10 or 15 years or more.

This story stinks to high heaven.

I reckon there is much more to it than meets the eye and that Silvio Scerri will manipulate the facts to get rid of the people he deems undesirable. I’m sure that is the ultimate aim behind all this.

  5. CIS says:

“Resignation” what does it mean when directed to a Labour-leaning person? Resignations were only requested of PN Ministers prior to last March.

Low standards, non-existent ethics and trash people managing our future.

I have no option but to live under this tragic government, but the young people who are studying should seriously consider moving out and beyond. Get your experience, expand your knowledge and make creative acquaintances. You have no future here, the Mintoff era is back.

I’m proud to have voted for Jason Azzopardi. He is doing what the PN should do in the Opposition, exposing all the deficiencies and incompetences of the Labour government. It is not that difficult, after all.

Could somebody tell me who is in charge/conducting/chairing the inquiry? The prime minister should know that no one is allowed to interfere with such inquiries as long as we are not back to the eighties.

“Ighdli ma min taghmilha u jien nghidlek x’int.” (Translated: Tell me what company you choose to keep and I’ll tell you what YOU are!)

A wise and opportune Malta proverb for observance by the staff of the Home Minister when utilising the services of convicted criminals.

  9. Jay Pee says:

I am amazed and perplexed at how very accommodating the new Commissioner of Police is at covering up for Silvio Scerri….this is already the second time.

Such a person in such an authoritative role should keep his distance and do his job properly and not just lick the hand that fed him.
