Ah, so now we know why he became PM Alfred Sant’s favourite in 1996

They’re all coming out of the woodwork now.

  1. A.Attard says:

Malta is full of these self appointed experts obsessed with their own self importance.

  2. Maria Gauci says:

One would expect an ‘economist by training’ to make a distinction between PRICE and PRIZE.

[Daphne – It’s his pronunciation that’s the problem.]

  3. Min Jaf says:

‘Nobel Price’ – that incorrect spelling says it all. Only the suckers who swallowed the Malta Taghna Lkoll bait could ever be impressed by the opinions expressed by the likes of David Spiteri Gingell.

As to the EU Commission being unelected. The Commission is the executive arm of, and is subject to, the European Parliament the members of which are directly elected by EU citizens.

[Daphne – I find that the English spelling of many Maltese people, when they are tapping out comments casually on the internet, precisely but unconsciously reflects their pronunciation. ‘Price’ is exactly how David Spiteri Gingell and very many others who can’t get the English ‘ize’/’aze’ sound (because Maltese does not have them, and uses ‘ajs’/’ejs’ instead) pronounce ‘prize’. “He has won a price.” (prajs) “He got lost in the mace.” (mejs) ]

I happened to have encountered David professionally some 14 years ago. As far as I could consider at the time he was an IT guru, not an ‘economist by training’. I do not know in what pastures he is grazing (or which he is gracing) at the present.

Whether anyone may have paid a price to be awarded a Nobel Prize (not very probable, I assume) seems to escape him.

      • the hobbit says:

He is not a guru of anything.

He is unethical and rude in the extreme, and good at bullshit. I know this from personal experience.

He is also a Holocaust supporter to the same extent as that rabid-foaming-at-the-mouth-right-winger brother of his is a Holocaust denier. This as well was a personal experience of mine.

  4. La Redoute says:

That means he voted Labour too. Nice going, when he was targetted by the Labour press for being a PN supporter. They say everyone has their price. Who’d have thought David Spiteri Gingell would be so cheap?

    • Sufa says:

Then again, the Nationalists were – and still are – suckers for trusting closet Labourites in “vantage” positions.

  5. Osservatore says:

“I am not a Nobel Price (sic) holder or anything like that”

No David, you clearly are not and never were. In fact, I hardly doubt whether anyone ever even gave that any thought.

The fact that you feel the need to make such a statement, on Facebook nonetheless, goes to show that you are little more than a spoilt child who nurses his ego by indulging himself in self-flattery of a quasi infantile nature.

No, not a Nobel Prize holder. Not anything remotely like that, David.

  6. Dickens says:

Mr Spiteri Gingell is indeed a man for all seasons. He changes his political colours depending on who is ruling the roost from Castille at any given time.A veritable chamaleon.

  7. H.P. Baxxter says:

We’re falling through the Matrix, my friends. Slowly but surely the Truth is being revealed.

Labour will still win but hey, this is real life not a movie.

  8. Emmett Brown says:

No wonder he messed up MCST, then MITA and finally even Enemalta.

Most of the cards are now falling in place.

  9. Miss Forcina says:

David Spiteri Gingell was also responsible for the pension reform, under Dr Gonzi (as Social Policy Minister and later Prime Minister) may I remind you all. He was harshly scolded by the then Labour opposition. But times change. People too.

And he probably made the switch too but was waiting for the opportune moment to come out.

[Daphne – He says here that he voted against EU membership, Miss Forcina, which means that he’s been voting Labour for a while now. That’s testimony to how the previous government was really the one prepared to work even with its sworn enemies, and not averse to giving top jobs to those who disagreed with its policies.]

  10. Disappointed says:

Spiteri Gingell is still engaged by the Ministry for Electricity and the Conservation of Water as a consultant.

He was highly estimated by the previous administration and the one before that and even before that as well.

He was entrusted with Public Service Reform in the early 90s and several other major projects from then on. I always remember him in high places and as being an insider.

He is against the EU yet built his career, consultancy firm, his whole life really, around the EU and its requirements and there are more like him running around, so much that it is disgusting.

Calling some people double-faced would be flattering them. It is simply unbelievable and if I could, I really would chose not to live in this country anymore.
