Just look at the extract from the UNESCO ambassador list, highlighted in bold below.

1. Malta’s ambassador to UNESCO is a monsignor in the Roman Catholic Church.

2. He refuses to leave Gozo, so Malta’s permanent delegation to UNESCO is now in the Victoria citadel.

3. He has a girlfriend, Fabienne Grech, and as if flaunting her all over town isn’t bad enough for a senior official of the Roman Catholic Church (when he threw a party for several hundred people to celebrate his ‘silver anniversary’ earlier this year – 25 years as a priest or whatever – she was at the door welcoming people and dressed in…silver), she is also included on the UNESCO ambassador list in email form.

Something I forgot to mention earlier: Joe Vella Gauci was archpriest of the Gozo cathedral, but when Mario Grech was made Bishop of Gozo, he had Vella Gauci removed.

Don’t bother with the wild guesses as to why.

Vella Gauci’s reaction was to give a big front-page interview to the General Workers Union newspaper, It-Torca, saying that he had been deprived of justice.

Thank God for Labour and il-Bronka, then.

Interestingly, while the government has allowed Vella Gauci to transplant the UNESCO desk to Is-Sentinella, Ic-Cittadella, and to give this address to UNESCO for inclusion in the ambassadors’ list, and has even released a press statement saying that Ambassador Monsignor Vella Gauci will be operating out of Gozo, it follows the correct and proper form on its own Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

    Six years ago already:

Fabienne Grech from the Cathedral parish read out a message describing events that took place 50 years ago. She was followed by Canon Julian Refalo Rapa who read a poem. There were messages from Bishop Grech, Xaghra archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo and Cathedral archpriest Mgr Joe Vella Gauci.
