The headline last night in The Irish Independent: ‘Malta to sell citizenship for €650,000’
And here’s the first part of the report:
MALTA’S parliament on Tuesday approved selling citizenship of the Mediterranean island for €650,000 for each non-European Union applicant.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said the programme was meant to bring in revenue to the country while attracting “high value” people who could potentially invest in the island.
He estimated the scheme would earn the government 30 million euros in its first year – meaning around 45 people would be sold citizenship, which would also give them work and residency rights in the rest of the 28-member bloc.
Malta is a member of the European Union, a member of the Schengen border-less travel area and has a visa waiver agreement with the United States.

Thanks to Joseph Muscat, Malta has just become a door mat where people wipe their feet before entering the rest of Europe.
Before the elections Joseph Muscat said that a Labour government would be proactive in reducing the waiting lists.
With the PL’s approval in Parliament for the setting up of an Individual Investor Programme for the granting of citizenship to foreign individuals and families, Muscat has just extended the waiting lists all the way to Russia and China.
What a shame. It makes us look desperate and unimaginative, hard up for money and with no idea how to make it, because we have nothing better to off.
The only thing that Labour can make of EU membership is selling EU passports. A real shambles of a government.
And yet, during the election campaign, JM promised to make Malta “l-Aqwa fl-Ewropa” (the best in Europe). With his ‘imaginative’ drive and leadership (to quote bob-a-job above:)

You can just feel the snowball effect ready to happen any minute now.
Dum de dum.

How degrading. This makes us look like gold diggers.
It’s worse than that. It makes Malta look like a mother prostituting her daughters.

Not much longer before the general public reading these articles in their respective countries realise what this scheme really means.
Most people buying into this scheme are aiming to live in THEIR countries not ours.
