Malta’s real estate agents: you have been well and truly shafted

This is the way Henley & Partners do it in Portugal (text copied from the company’s own website). With Henley’s real estate offices now open for business in Malta, it’s going to be exactly the same here.
“On arrival to Portugal our expert concierge and real-estate team will introduce you to property options that hold a large geographic, environment and price-point diversity as you may prefer a property in the city, or at a beach resort in the Algarve. Henley Estates has a wide and varied qualifying portfolio to cover all of these situations, together with bespoke procurement and relocation services.”

“On arrival in Malta, our team of property specialists will show you the way to our St. Julians office where you can check our great selection of mezzanini, terraced houses, Bugibba flats and Golden Years home ownership properties, each worth around Eur 350,000 (plus ground rent). If you do not wish to spend that amount of money, we can accompany you straight to the bank to organise a standing order of Eur 16,000 p.a. which you can claim to be the rental of a fictitious apartment.
On your way back to the airport, our staff can accompany you to say hello to the President of the Malta Developers Association at the Labour Party headquarters, where you could ask for a “meeting with Joseph.”
Back at the airport, we will be glad to advise you with media relations: should you encounter Net TV reporters, we can help you negotiate the purchase of their footage, file police reports against the reporters, and use other deviation tactics, such as sending them to steal some chickens.
We can also assist you to board your private jet quickly through the exits normally reserved for airport staff only.”
Should you wish to retain an address in Malta, we will introduce you to a representative of the MHRA who will show you a selection of broom cupboards and closets which may be rented for the entry-level price of Eur16,000 annually.
As there is no obligation to occupy the room, the same address can be used for yourself, your spouse, parents, parents-in-law, and any number of dependent children and step-children.
Should you wish to rent a more prestigious address, our contact, a leading hotelier, would be glad to show you a range of larger hotel rooms you can rent for an annual fee that will be disclosed on application.
We will also take you back to the airport using an army helicopter.
Should they disdain the idea of flying in a plastic bubble – no potty provided, I’m afraid – they may take to Chinese rickshaws.
It is a one-stop shop at Heneley & Partners. To be complete, Manwel Mallia should open an office at Aragon House, level 4.
Kalin( Henley ) argued that European Commissioner Vivian Reding has “very good ties with the PN”.
From the latest Malta Today article about IIP!
My interpretation of “Reding has very good ties with the PN” is that according to Henley, our PM lacks good ties with the European Commission.
Are they suggesting she’s been bought off? They must think everyone operates as they do.
Hilarious, the salesman blaming his product.
So they have the financial services provider, they have the property negotiator, do they also have the tied contractor/s ?
Perhaps all’s already in place for the pre-tender research on electronic voting requirements.
They’ll probably branch out into gas soon.
I wonder if they have opened their own stock-broking office in Malta, or whether they have affiliated themselves with an existing office.
They would need to buy those Eur 150,000 in government bonds or shares, and maybe do some trading from time to time to “take profits.”
Simon Busuttil should make a further pledge: to have Henley & Partners and the Labour Party officials who dealt with them investigated for the manner in which this was done, which stinks to high heaven.
Passport applicants will probably be met at the airport by Sandro Chetcuti who will take them for a spin in his red Ferrari, if ‘Fadderrr Gorrrrtinnnn’ isn’t using it that day, and show them some of his splendid flettijiet.
‘Ara dis – you like? Only tmien mitt elf Maltin, ta! Barkin.’
Thank goodness for health insurance then.
Sandro Chetcuti is busy offering his services as a volunteer to the Labour Party at the Mile End.

The amazing thing about this is that Identity Malta will provide Henley & partners the names and contact details of all people who will need to rent real estate, since all files will be given to Henley as soon as they are submitted to Identity Malta, and as is written in the law.
So of course Maltese realtors will not even have a chance to work with the citizenship buyers, as Henley will have captured them as soon as they start the process of buying citizenship.
The amazing thing about this is how supposedly intelligent people were blinded by self-centred greed and are now mutteringly darkly in the shadows rather than raising hell.
That’s Labour, where the only redeeming factor must be organised corruption and systematic kickbacks.
Now you know why these jerks can’t stand scrutiny or the obligations of an EU member state.
Conflicts of interest all the way – shameful the way Henley & Partners has set this up to plunder Malta.
They must think our Prime Minister is really dumb to fall for it.. and commit Malta to it for 10 years.
[Daphne – No, I don’t think they think he’s really dumb. Something else, but not dumb. You’re starting from the perspective of somebody who thinks that the government has been sold a scam. It should occur to you that, given the passion with which this project is being defended, and the determination to proceed with it, it is not only Henley & Partners who are involved.]
Exactly.
70% of the money for the social development fund he said.
Do we have to ask?
Estate agents thought Joseph Muscat would turn the tide of economic reality for them. How right they were. What they did not reckon with was pole position for Henley and Everything.
